I'm scheduled for orientation with a company but I might have a call back from a better company (application is waiting final approval)

It means you're prehired. You go to orientation take the physical, drug test, road test make sure all your paperwork is in order all that fun stuff.Once you reach the last day of orientation that usually means you're hired.

Good luck.Normally the second day of orientation is when you'll know if you're prehired. All the stuff I mention is done the first day unless there is a lot of ppl in orientation.

Generally no. At my previous company, orientation was a weekly cattle call and all it meant was you looked good on paper. They didn't check anything until you actually got there. Of the 9 in my class, only 4 made it past the first day.

Even getting on the trainers truck didn't mean hired. It meant you were starting a 6 week interview. It wasn't until I tested out after 6 weeks that they said congratulation, you are now hired by xxxx if you're interested in a position. nobody ever informed me this was the process but after I started training I made sure all my students knew day one they didn't have a job just yet.

Contrast that with my current and much better company who doesn't do cattle calls and doesn't hire students. They checked everything before even doing a phone interview and it was excruciating and extensive and had to get through that before I could even get a face to face interview with the transportation manager. The 4 of us who showed up at orientation were already vetted, thoroughly screened and hired on day one.

Depends on the company but if you're going with a company that hires students and get invited to orientation it usually only means you look good on paper and they don't spend the money to check anything until you're there. They run too many through the mill each week to spend the money prior to you being there.

its not a very good idea to go to orientation with company A while planning to leave for company B. Ask Company B to make a faster decision, or delay company A orientation a week. Orientation cost a lot of money. Also, if company B find out you quit on A after they spent money on you, they may change their mind about you. If you came to my orientation and then left for a better job part way through, I would make sure all your future employers knew that.

Oh please. Get off your high horse. If I was in mid stream of a piss test and got a better offer I'd leave. Only a fool would pass up an opportunity to work for a better company.

Nope. Depending on the company you might not even be pre-hired (meaning they invite people who will definitely be sent home as soon as a phone call is made).

Anyone have a idea on what to say to the recruiter so I don't screw myself out of a job in case I need to come back to them for some reason ?
