Hi Everyone, my husband and I are going to take the full AZ training course through Crossroads in Ottawa. He has been driving dump truck for three years with DZ license. I have my DZ but have not used it. Our goal is to run long haul together. Out dilemma is that we can't seem to figure out if we would make enough money. Everywhere I check, it seems as though the wages are completely different. Running out of Ontario, perhaps California runs, is it possible for us to make $120,000/yr? Seems people are saying around $80,000. That is not worth it to us at all, nor would we leave higher paying jobs. Is the potential there for more money? Are there companies that offer continuous work for teams and will allow us to keep the truck rolling to earn more money? I would appreciate any feedback regarding income potential. Thank you in advance to all!

Are you looking to be company drivers or owner ops ?

We're a husband & wife team that's company drivers, make $60k/each & home 2-3 days a week. The team on here from Old Dominion makes $80k/each & home weekly. I'm sure if you stay out for long periods of time you can make $100k+ each.

Thank you for your reply. We would be company drivers. Well, at least to start with. I see your based out of the states, do you know that we could make that kind of money in Canada? $80,000 would be amazing and very worth it for us to leave our current industries and incomes. Plus we would have the added bonus of working together. Do you have any further advice for us? Do you know how long we would have to get new driver wages before we can earn full potential? Do you know the demand for teams?

    Tips:

    1. Get all of your endorsements.

    2. Read all you can on the truckers report. The good & the bad. 100% turnover in this industry.

    3. You'll be home once a month(4 days) possibly when you start.....can you handle that ?

Teams are sought after. Don't know about Canada.

If your both making good money & home daily then think long and hard about trucking because like I said there is a 100%+ turnover.

That being said.....my wife and I like the job. It's not easy at first but we've seen all 48 states and had the downtime to enjoy the places we've been. At times it can seem like a mini-vacation.

Ask a lot of questions about the company your looking into. More and more of them are micromanaging their drivers to the point there's no fun being out here. Their making it into a job lol :biggrin_2556:

The first little while may be difficult because you may not find a company that is going to let two new drivers team together. You will likely have to train with more experienced drivers separately. After that time if you have a good record companies will be fighting over you. Teams are in huge demand. You shouldn't have a problem making good money running to the west coast and Texas and back.

Some companies have short training programs of just a few weeks, some will require a few months. Whether or not you can get a female trainer depends on what the company has available. Try calling a company that hires inexperienced drivers that hires in your area. Erb Transport out of New Hamburg hires new drivers and has a very good reputation for safety. Give them or someone like them a call. Chances are they would be happy to hear from a prospective team and would give you the info you need. In addition, they pay their teams better than .50/ mile so you should be able to make $120,000/ year combined.

Check with KRISKA in Prescott also there are a lot of USA west coast haulers that run team out of Montreal , not all that many trucking outfits in Ottawa that do the team stuff , for Canadian long haul team work there is BISON as well as HIGHLAND that haul Montreal to Vancouver
