I've been looking for employment, had a small felony that got me 2 years of probation when I was young, been almost 10 years ago now. I have a CDL A and operated under my own MC authority for about 7 months. Does anyone know if these trucking companies even care about that? I feel that if you list it on a job app, youre automatically shooting yourself in the foot. MVR is clean, no tickets in almost 10 years as well. Figured maybe someone on the inside as a recruiter, or in charge of hiring for a trucking co. could chime in here....all info is appreciated

Dope? And if so, sales or using? Yeah, it might make a difference.

Small felony , I thought you shot a midget ! :biggrin_25523: Sorry couldn't help myself.

On a more serious note , I have seen a lot of post about dealing with a felony. Maybe type felony in the search block.

    Sorry , not much help.

no drugs, got caught up in some bs with friends, only thing i ever got in trouble for in my life. had to do with stolen property that i didnt take but i had posession of it as a favor to my "friends". Anyways, not really interested in OTR, just local but I'm wondering if I'm messin up these applications by listing an irrelevant conviction that was from when i was a kid. I have some job offers but they're OTR, not tryin to be picky but I do have too many obligations on the home front to be away for weeks at a time.

You do exactly what the application calls for. If it asks for felonies within the past 5 ,7, or 10 years and it is older than that dont put it. If it asks for any felonies ever you put it. Otherwise you are wasting everyones time because they will find it and fire you.

There is no such thing as a small felon lawyers lie and he lied to you. There is one type of felony and it creates one type of person: A Felon.

You are a felon. Own it.

As the last poster said, follow what the application instructs you. There are a lot of companies that will hire ex-cons, and you didn't quite get that far, so you should be able to find something.

Again it can't be stressed enough do not lie or try to conceal it on your application. OTOH, don't mention it if you don't have to.

There are lots of different types of local work. Everything from soda pop to LTL to construction/aggregate outfits to trash collection. I'm sure you will find something.

Some types of trucking are less trucking and more "other work," such as the soda pop routes. Also, some types are more picky than others are. But if you have kept your nose clean for 10 years or so, I don't see a problem with most places.

If you have already put in a bunch of applications and haven't heard back from them, don't necessarily blame it on the conviction. There could be lots of other reasons. Keep working at it, and you WILL find work.
