I have been putting a lot of thought into getting my cdl and going OTR. In reading the IL cdl study guide in the disqualification section it says that a faliure to reduce speed to avoid an accident is a disqualification.... Will getting the faliure to reduce ticket stop me from getting a cdl? I need to know before i try and pay for school, i have heard that a lot of the private schools will tell you things wont stop you from getting a cdl just to take your money and at $3000 I cant afford to goto school to have the dmv deny me the cdl. thanks

OP why are you worried, common since tells you to slow down. There is no reason to be in that much of a hurry not to slow down. All the yrs ive been driving a semi and car I have never received that kind of ticket. If you feel you can't slow down especially a semi, maybe you should rethink getting your CDL.

Just go get the permit. If they issue the permit I think you should be good to go. Permit is just a written test and like $30.

non fatal i took some dust off of the hitch on a jeep.. there wasnt even any damage to it... i had bad tires it was raining and the lady slammed on her brakes to avoid a squirrel.... she freaked out and called the cops and because they came out i got a ticket.. but it does not mention in the cdl book if it would stop me from getting a cdl just that it was disqualify if i had one.... and patty theres no reason to be down right rude like that i have been driving 13 years and this is the first time i have ever hit anyone and there was NO DAMAGE the hitch became the cleanest part of the car.

Never heard of that before. People get a CDL with worse driving records than yours and are hired immediately after CDL school graduation. Apply for a permit; you will need it anyway. Don't volunteer information to the IL DMV; they are the worst of all the states.
Even if the school requires pre-hire letters from trucking companies, that's no problem either. Many companies will hire you with that ticket.akmetzler Thanks this. -
As long as I can continue to learn from my mistakes and the mistakes of others I have no problem admitting to them.... There is a reason their called ACCIDNETS.... It's not like I saw this lady in her shiney new jeep and flew into a rage thinking about my 15 year old impala with 240k miles

How long ago was the collision? --Just curious...
Usually things like that can disqualify you for a time if it occurs AFTER you obtain a CDL. Typically tickets like that prior to obtaining a CDL does not disqualify you from obtaining a CDL in the first place. But every State is different. Can you provide a link to the text?
But even with CDL in-hand, getting hired with that on your record may be difficult. -
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/dsd_cdl10.pdf its at the bottom of page 8... this happened about 3 months ago.
I think if need be I can have the ticket re opened, and either do the state driving school thing or court supervision to have it removed. I would have to talk to someone either SOS office or a traffic lawyer to find out though.
