Diesel fuel is considered hazmat. If you have over 1000lbs of hazmat you need placards. If a gallon of diesel weighs about 7lbs then 143 gallons would be 1000lbs. So why is it not considered hazmat if you have 143 gallons of diesel in your fuel tanks but it is a hazmat load if you have 143 gallons in a tank in the trailer?

Fuel in your tanks is not cargo. No bill of laden no hazmat.

I'm wondering the same but not about the fuel but about the methane that I'll be transporting in the cab after I eat some Chinese food. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You don't need placards for your fuel tanks....
But if you crash and rip open the fuel tanks and put maybe 2-300 gallons of fuel on the ground or worse in the water.....you'll be horrified by the bill for the clean up .G.Anthony Thanks this. -
