I've been sick for about a week and a half with an upper respiratory virus and laryngitis. My throat feels like I have shards of glass stuck in it. Been doing alright because I've been sleeping so I kept working.
Unfortunately due to an issue with the trailer that I had to pick up yesterday (some one didn't do their pre -post trip) that I had to take to the mechanic I wasn't able to take my 10 hour break on time I had to do a sleepless eight hour break at the mechanic.
I ended up going to the first stop but they wouldn't let me stay there so I had to find a place on the road to stop. I found a place but I swear somebody was banging on the trailer the rest of the time so I got maybe an hour broken up sleep.
Right now I've been up for almost 36 hours and I am absolutely exhausted and the cold is not helping anything at this point. I got my drops done and headed to the truck stop to sleep when I got a message that now I have to take another 8 hour break that is not going to be an 8 hour break then race 4-5 hours over pick up another load and in Burbank Washington then has to be picked up by 1 a.m. and delivered in Tracy California by the following morning at 8:30 a.m.
I called my DM to tell him how tired I am and he says the best he can do is tell me to get the 8 in and run as far as I can because I'm going to need every hour I can get to make this run and I have to be on time to both pick up and delivery.
My ex trainer insist that because as tired as I am I need to get some sleep so add the extra 2 hours take a full 10 which will put me late to pick up. He says if they complain about it that I should go to safety about the fact that I'm running exhausted and sick to boot. I'm afraid that this could cost me my job if I don't do what the DM says.
What should I do run or sleep?
Not sure what to do... tired/sick told to run anyway
