I am currently hired on started in 2 weeks as a delivery driver for a beer distributor JJ Taylor in south Florida where I am from. I am wanting to know the basics as far as job entitlement and ## tf ure possibilities. The company has 3 locations and has a good rep and family oriented. Thanks for any advice - Alex

Delivering beer or soda will not really help much for a future in the trucking industry, If you can muscle it out and work into one of the other jobs there, you could do well eventually.. these companies want strong backs and license and equip at minimal levels.

I do know of someone that does indeed deliver beer. It is hard work, back-breaking too at that. So wear steel toed boots, and maybe even a back-belt. Most beer and soda companies are busy only at certain times of the year (as he told me) due to the holiday or season. Like Christmas time/New years, he told me he runs like his pants are on fire. After those holidays he can barley make 40 hours. Then come mid-spring, and well into late summer, again,, he goes like crazy. I was also told by him, that yes indeed that have trailer work, where he too wants to get into, as all they do is back up to the dock, drop, then hook up to an empty (or returns) and go back to the warehouse. But THAT job is by seniority, and he is so far down the list, he figures that by the year 3010, he should be golden! That's only what he said, 996 more years? He says "he can wait it out". LOL

But that is his place, where you are going "might be" easier to get a trailer job, that is, if you want to stay with them.

I worked for Pepsi when I 1st tryed to get a new job I was told them side bays are not real class A experience so I stuck it out with Pepsi for a bit got promoted to bulk driving a 48 footer and doing all the chain stores and that gave me my classe A experience as they call it. Right now at Pepsi here its 500 a week base pay +0.19 per case see Vermont is kind of a rural state you normally have 350 - 500 cases a day up to 800 on peak times

Working 4 days a week is great. sure longer hours each day, but the benefits of setting up doctor or any other type of important appointments far out weigh the longer hours that some put in, but may need to take either a full or half day off, and lose son\me money as well. This is why I really like working nightly, 5 nights, Mon-Fri. ALL the time I need daily for things to get done.

Thanks all for the advice and reply. Another thing to add about the on / off season I dont know how it goes with this company being in a tropical environment I cant see it being completely dead in the summer off season monthes. Right now in my home town and where this company is it is in season being that all the snow birds flew south. And in the summer it is hotter than hell and seems like more beer would be gladly consumed on the beaches lol. And the pay is 47k a year starting with a flat daily rate pay.

Well I take it then that you are in Floridah. Which yes, I can see a beer hauler working all year long, and extra duty on the holiday's. SO I'd consider you luckier than the northern beer haulers. Good luck to you!
