I'm sorry if this question has been asked before. A casual search through the forum search function didn't exactly bring up the answer I was looking for. Let me begin by saying i'm currently enrolled in a 20 week cdl school and I'm set to graduate in March. However, in June of this year I got into a at fault accident which also resulted in a failure to yield ticket. As i'm quickly finding out an accident is just as bad as a felony in this industry, maybe even worse. No one was hurt thankfully, but the ticket and accident is right there on my dmv report.

Maverick and Magnum both require a year to pass from the date of the accident before they'll even process my application. I can understand that for insurance purposes, but is that an industry wide thing? Paschall Truck Lines is currently letting their Safety Department look over my application, and they'll let me know eventually if it'll be a problem.

Thanks for reading so far, and now here is the main question. Is there any carriers out there that would even consider me? I've pretty much accepted i'll probably have to work for a 2nd or 3rd chance carrier till that accident gets old enough, but hopefully with your help my first carrier won't turn out to be as bad as I think it will be, and if it does at least i'll be going in with my eyes wide open.

With my dmv report I can't be too picky, so I really don't have a preference on what I haul.

Paschall hasn't said "no" so they're probably going to hire you. It's a pretty good dry van company with drivers that have been there for years.

Western express and Carolina cargo are two last resort type of companies you could try if you truly run out of all options. I want to be very clear here. They are extreme bottom of the barrel type of carriers. Very low pay and their idea of training is get in the truck and run your ### off. Especially in Carolinas case, you are just rolling the dice if you make it home in one piece.

Doesn't many carriers forgive you after they fire you and send you walking?

Years ago I had a wreck, ran over a cotton wagon on I-10 that was going about 10 MPH west bound. Said if he drove any faster it would wobble very bad and could not hold it on the road. The only wreck I ever had.

The only things my boss said was he was, "Happy no one got hurt," them a few days later he told me, "We come out good, we made money on that wreck. If you ever having another wreck be sure its one that we can make money on."

Yeah, I laugh when I see that commercial on TV about accident forgiveness.

Our vehicles ain't cars. This is the big leagues and there ain't no mercy.

I'm not saying it's always right, but that's the way it is.

Helps to keep you motivated to be a safe driver

Its a little over 10k. After just 2 months into it I feel i'll be a well trained rookie once I graduate. Granted my company trainer will still have to teach me how to survive the trucker lifestyle, and aspects of the job my school didn't cover. However, I think I'll be a pretty good driver due to all the practice i'll have driving in the city, rural, and hill areas of my state.

I heard that term "accident forgiveness" before, in a car insurance commercial i believe. All state is it?

Never heard it before in this industry. Anyways my boss would hire you. Hell i think he has a few murderers on the team.

Just find yourself a jack ### who owns a few trucks. Just know it wont be fun....

    20 weeks? That's a bit exaggerated.

Anyway, just apply to companies and you'll see who'll hire.

Somewhat on topic...I received a ticket prior to obtaining my CDL and did traffic school to avoid any points on my driving record. This is in California btw. Would this count against me as far as obtaining a job? Got a recent 10 year abstract and it shows but the points still says zero.
