New CDL school grad. Not sure who to go with and looking for feedback. Right now it's between Schneider and Warner. That could change, but need to decide soon.
Pros & Cons of each from my perspective:
---Schneider Van - Eastern OTR---
Pros - short training period, only one week out with trainer and trainer does not drive, just trains, saw more positive than negative feedback in here, may be interested in Choice program, sounds like good miles @3000, 1k sign on bonus and tuition reimbursement
Cons - for home time have to leave truck at drop yard that is 4 hour drive from home, 14/2 - 14/3 schedule, for 5 home days per month..would prefer 28/5, which maybe they can work with if I ask. No western driving, which I would like. Possible frequent northeast trips.
---Werner OTR---
Pros - get to take truck home, don't have much other info yet but that is a big plus. Tuition reimbursement.
Cons - 275 hours of training, which I think translates into 4 or 5 weeks depending on what hours they count as training, have seen some unpleasant feedback about trainers.
I'm probably over thinking the whole thing. But I'd be grateful for feedback. Might be something I hadn't considered that carries a lot of weight. Thanks.

short training is not a "PRO"...
Training it's not fun sure but it's extremely valuable that will go a long way.
One week is not enough.
Are you gonna get experience in the big mountains and driving in big cities all in one week?
Not gonna get much experience backing the real world docks with someone by your side either.
I'm not saying Werner is the way to go, rather "none of the above" lol. -

Yeah it seems that both are at opposite extremes for length of training. But out of many applications those are the two that have accepted me. I'm in a very weak hiring area. So, if you had to pick between these two, sounds like you'd go with Werner to get adequate training, which I agree makes a lot of sense.

Unless you've got previous experience, the training program you go through at SNI is actually 3 weeks. Still not long by any means but it stacks up like this:
Week 1) hard skills
Week 2) out with a trainer (yep, they don't drive. But how can you learn if you don't drive?)
Week 3) refine hard skills and learn soft skills.
(soft skills are Qualcomm use and similar.)
They will tell you during orientation that you can't take your truck home, but I know a few who worked something out with SNI and either take theirs home or park it someplace safe nearby their house.
Always take what you read from a company as an "advertisement." They want you to sign up and "buy in." Because by the time you've signed up it's too late to back out. -
You might want to consider crete ,; they also let you take truck home and they just gave pay raise

You're interested in the Choice Program, so go with Schneider.

Werners training period was long and after the observation time was done me and my trainer were basically teaming. I will say this he was a good trainer, and he was OYR so I did the grape vine, donners pass, Wyoming, all during training so I knew what to expect by the time I went solo. Yes like I stated before it is long and by the end you'll want to knock your trainer out but it's worth it I think. If your good enough you won't have to take road test at the end and you'll get your truck as soon as possible.
now the other side is the student reiburment I didn't see a fine, and I did two accounts with Werner and it didn't work out. So I lucked out with training, got some experience and moved on to better things and better pay.Shaggy Thanks this. -
I'd go with Schneider Tanker Division ( Schneider Dry van over werner ). Stepping stone to do fuel delivery or just broaden your experience with different equipment.
Werner is a true bottom feeder company making the most buck off of new drivers " Team / "Training ". Dry Van is very basic. Drop/Hook/ bump some docks/ maybe sit at the rail yard getting peanuts for detention. Get paid crap to unload a full trailer of dollar stores rarely at a dock. Haul cheap freight, Get paid cheap, You may pull a union trailer,Definitely not getting 1/2 of that union drivers wage. It's a Insult to yourself and too the other drivers.

Screw the reimbursement crap with any company. These aren't Wal-mart retail wages. Within a year at any company can pay back the CDL school loan on your own and no stupid contract to sign. That crap is too entice new drivers and it works very well
