Hi I am fresh out of school with my cdl and all endorsements. I live in Abilene, Texas. Clean driving record, and excellent work history (I.e. Worked for the state for the last 8 years and a high school job is all I have) I have a couple of companies I have talked too. I am 26 with two kids and don't mind being on the road but would like to be home at least a day a week to see my family.

These are the companies I have talked too:

AVERITT- DG dedicated account, avg 1000 wk. Rolltainer unload, Grooming standard and no pet, home sat & sun, 6 wk training at $600

Werner - DG dedicated account, not sure on pay, rolltainer unload, no grooming standard and can have a pet, home sat & sun, approximately 6week training at $450.

Southeastern freight line - start on dock till someone quits at 17 an hour 40hrs a week 330am- 12 m-f

Coastal transport co inc. - fuel hauling 4 on 2 off night shift, "says" 1st year avg 50k, 4 week training.

If anybody has any suggestions or knows anymore about the companies to assist in my decision it would be greatly appreciated.

I have eight years at Averitt but if I were in your situation I would take that SEFL offer hands down.

Ready Mix plants use tons of powder, Here in CA it pays good, and some will train. one load off the powder trailers supplies enough for 10. 10 yard mixers.

Hit up the local Bulk Haulers, see if APEX bulk still has a Texas yard. Good money, home every night. Off most weeekends. Apex here is in Adelanto CA they were looking for drivers to run TX, But may have a need there local.

Dollar General sucks, cant run hard because thhe store uses up your hours, loads are generally flat rated. They can not keep drivers on them.

What he said^^ unless your a gluton for punishment..
You don't need that headache right out of the gate.
The stores are Not set up for big trucks.
I would rather ride a trash truck, but that's just me.
    You can do better:)

i do dollar tree doing it 3 month now. its hard work you touch each and every box's if yo a hard worker you'll be alright but at time's you're gonna wanna quit plus you jus got ur cdl man do something else then if you want you do it, and its a lot of backing in tight space. im not trying to scare with backing but u gonna do a lot. and the space is tight.

Coastal Transport would be my first choice.
    Southeastern would be 2nd choice.

3rd choice wouldn't be Werner or Averitt.

Western Dairy Transport is always hiring, but don't know how good the pay is hauling tankers of milk.

Beaver Express in Abilene-home every night.

Agree with MustangGT on that one... DG accounts take a special person to run. It's a PITA to get the trucks into most of the stores and they take forever to unload. 1000 a week is pushing yourself pretty hard and hoping that everything works out perfectly... I would work the docks for a while and then maybe drive for SEFL once they have an opening. Heck maybe you can become a yard jockey and open yourself up to even more opportunities later on. You'd get PLENTY of backing experience under your belt doing that. LOL Plus working the docks you can get an idea of what the company is about and work yourself into a position you WANT, not what they give you.

Thank y'all. No guarantee on the southeastern job. My wife's uncle works for them and said he would try to get me on as they are looking for a driver but that position is promised to the last driver they hired who is currently working the docks. It would be an ideal job if I was on the docks 2-4 months and then moved me into a fill-in driver position. The DG account sounds like it is not what it is made out to be. Again thank yall for the info if it doesn't work out coastal wants me but I just don't know about the front facing cameras. Either way god will put me where I need to be. Just keep the faith!!!
