OK.., this is going to be a little long maybe. But I figure I might as well get out as much history as I can to give you all a better capability for Feedback.

I am going on 19yrs active duty in the Army. I did 12yrs as an 88M (truck driver) and then switched professions to another job field. I got out in 2002, went Reserves and started driving for Schneider (Cringe).. I drove for about 3 months before I couldn't take their lies and crap and got a local Flatbed Job hauling building supplies (some of the most awkward built loads I have ever seen to have to tie down) running most of NW WA (Seattle area a LOT). Well 1 yr to the day, I got reactivated to serve for the War effort. After 5 yrs of doing that 6 months at a time I figured I would stick it out and retire for the benefit of my family. When transferring back to Active Duty Army.., I had to change job professions (no big deal, still serving my country) to make it happen without loosing rank. Well I am right at 3 yrs out and will be retiring in SE GA and was wondering the best way to get my foot back in the door of a decent company that does Local hauls. The boss lady already said NO OTR for me..(she married a HUSBAND.., not a NAME) which I can understand. I have been gone from Home more than being there in the last 10 yrs. I am up for anything that can keep me local to include hauling chips, lumber, etc.. I have experience hauling the M1A1 main battle tank and various versions of it and other Large tracked vehicles that Army uses (Most of this was over 3 yrs in CO on the edge of the Rockies). I logged close to 400,000 miles in that time which is an astounding # of miles for military driving. I would be happy with anything that could have me home at night and weekends (which is asking a LOT., I know) with a take home of about 2k a month. I am looking to see what the benefits of being a O/O running local and a Company Op as well.

ANY.., and I mean ANY advice would be Greatly appreciated by this guy who needs to rekindle that Trucking blood in his veins and smell the Diesel in the morning.

P.S. If there are any questions of me then please fill free to ask.. Asking questions never hurt anybody. It usually just made them smarter in MOST cases.:biggrin_25525:

So, you live in WA State still? If you do, search/apply for Port companies. Home daily (can be nightly, up to you) and home weekends. Much more than 2k a month.

Its a far stretch but you may luck up,,, Try the local steel companys or maybe a tractor dealership. the biggest hurdle is the 2000 take home and being new local driver. What part of SE GA

Get a job hauling gas at any tanker outfit ... if there are cars on the road, they need gas ... just get your Hazmat endorsement ... somebody will hire you ... should be able to meet your money requirements and be home also.

There is a milk hauling company in Baxley, Ga that you might check out. Williams Dairy. Last account that I had of them, they were running most loads into Florida.

First of all, thank you for your service.

If you're looking for local work, some have mentioned pulling a tank. You said you have flat bed experience. You can also check out LTL companies, either doing city driving or linehaul (pulling doubles). If you live in the right area where there are LTL company terminals near your home, you'll have more than one company to choose from. They tend to bunch up together. Unlike truckload companies, or OTR for that matter, you'll need to be close to an LTL company terminal to have a LTL trucking job.
