| A Lil Help PLEASE?? HI Its pretty evident that I picked a horrible cdl school to attend. Friday was the first day out on the range. There is 20 people in my class and just one truck. OUt of 10 hours I got about 15 minutes of actual driving time. Ive had a chance to talk with other students. It appears that people are actually succeeding at attaining there CDLs from this school with less than 20 hours of driving time total(on range and street) This sounds like lunacy to me. I was thinking about goin to the local truck stop and offering to pay the driver CASH to supplement my school training. How much do u think i would have to pay to get a off duty driver interested? Would a Owner operator be more likely to take me up on my offer or a company driver?? Finally, how much do you think it would take to get a off duty trucker interested? 40? 50? etc. By the way i do have a class A permit. thanks  |

 None of the above.... Company driver would be fired in an instant. An o/o would kill you the first time you touched something with his truck/trailer.

| Unfortunately Danc is right, you won't be able to get a hold of someone else's truck to practice. Sounds like you will just have to soldier on and make the best of it. I can safely say, that even if I had more hours in school, I learned a HELL of a lot more in my first week on the road (with my trainer). |

| The problem with your idea is that insurance and company requirements often prohibit passengers. Most O/Os aren't going to take a complete stranger on their truck. I know I wouldn't want to. And its not because you aren't a good driver. Its I just don't know you. Do you already know any O/Os??? If they already know you, you'll have a lot easier time. I would probably let some body I knew go with me without charging them.

| Crunchiness. If you need Wheel time. Go to A company like B.J. Services or Dowell. They Haul Bulk Cement to rig locations. As a bulk driver the starting pay wont be great, but they increase it on a regular basis. And believe me you will get wheel time. The Oilfield is Booming right now. I dont think it would be hard to get on with that type of company. Depends on hw soon you want to go OTR i spose. But if you are not in a hurry. This will help you. |
