So I am a student and we have recruiters coming to our school everyday.I have filled out apps. For US express and Werner. And both were denied and now I am concerned. I have perfectly cleaned background, I am 21 years old but I do have 1 accident and 1 ticket on my driving record. THe accident is for falling asleep and hitting a park car that no body was in. And the ticket was from the accident "switching Lanes unsafely" (complete bs it was a one lane street) But did not care to fight it. But anyways why would I be getting turned down? I told all the recruiters of the accident when then come and they keep saying you should be fine apply. Well guess what they don't want me... LOL
The accident was reported as "not at fault"
The accident and ticket is from 11/13.
Driving a tractor trailer is something I always wanted to since I was a kid. So if somebody can point me in the right direction with a decent company please let me know. All these recruiters are saying the same thing over and over.
Student needs some help.

2011 is still "to recent". Many trucking companies take a dim view of a truck driver falling asleep at the wheel. As a professional truck driver you are supposed to get your proper rest/sleep. Now it could be that you falling asleep behind the wheel of your car, is an indication to them, that you have sleep apnea. So hang in there for now, finish schooling. Worry about this at a later time. Sad too that when someone is denied a job, many times, you will never know why. But falling asleep behind the wheel can in your situation be what they saw as a problem.

pattyj Thanks this. -
When describing your accident on apps dont use the phrase fell asleep, maybe swerved to miss a child.
teqntexas, Shaggy, Arielit0oo and 1 other person Thank this. -
It might be a combination of factors: The area in which you live. (I.E. They don't need drivers there?) The offenses are too recent and your age (to con-inside with the accident) but who really knows the reasons...
I would keep plugging away. It's the end of the year and the loads aren't as prevalent, so concentrate on class, get your endorsements, and then in 2015 start looking again. By then who knows, you may have found a local company, or some other mega to take you on. (and on a personal note, I have mixed feeling about Werner anyway, so I'm glad they turned you down) -
Try Carolina Cargo. This is a company that gives drivers a chance to redeem themselves.
You will be running coast to coast, back to back with no waiting for loads. 6,000 miles a week probably.
The pay is low, but if you take full advantage of the on-time delivery, fuel bonus, etc. plus the milage pay, you can take home around $800.00 a week. If they hire you, stay with them for 12 months then you should be OK to go elsewhere. -

G.Anthony Thanks this. -
21 years of age may be a problem for many. Many require 23. But the 1 accident and 1 ticket in a relatively recent, and relatively short time span will be a red flag for many.
