I am sorry if this has been asked before but I could not find it.

Recently I was accepted to Prime. I am excited for the opportunity, and tried to research what to expect. I discovered that my first application was ok but upon arrival I may be sent home immediately for prior history- specifically a pair of failed drug tests in my past.

The first was a pre-employment screening about three years ago. The second stemmed from mandatory injury UA because I was hurt loading boxes and it was company policy. I have never been under the influence at work but had used recently enough to fail. I went through company procedure and eventually left on my own terms months later. This was two years ago. Both incidents were from marijuana.

Since the last incident, I have really made an effort to turn my life around. I have been drug-free for two years, held a job for longer than I had been back then, and was really excited to have this chance at trucking to prove I can do this. However, now I am concerned that my past will be brought up and come back to haunt me. I have worked really hard for this and the idea of being sent home because I messed up years before is killing me. My record is clean, my driving history is good- it is just those UAs I failed that are worrying me.

If someone could advise me or tell me what to expect, I would very much appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

If you use recreational drugs in any capacity, there is no place for you in this industry...period.

I commend you on the turn around, but the world isn't forgiving and this industry is harder on drug use than most. Unfortunately, that's going to hinder you on getting any kind of driving job with anyone.

    Borgg,

Were the drug tests that you failed related to the trucking/transportation industry? If so, look up the qualifications on Prime's website to see what their policy is on failed drug tests. Maybe a Prime driver can provide more information. If you lie and get caught, you might be halfway across country when you are told to park it and have to find your own way home (at you own expense).

@solo_seat: I agree. But I have not done so for several years. I made mistakes in the past and give no excuses. But my question remains regarding my current situation.

Neither job was driving related though one was loading at a distribution center. I never drove. On the application I filled out, it asked if we had failed ny drug tests under DoT jurisdiction, and I answered honestly, but later looked at Prime's site and it says must not have failed a drug test for four years prior, though it doesn't specify, and that is what prompted my thread.

I won't lie; if I have to eat the bullet I will and if my past costs me so be it. But I just want it so badly; it would really make a huge change in my life.

Thank you both for your time and input.

Prime and Maverick are probably the two most strict companies out there for any nitpicky issue.

You would be better off going through a private CDL school, then several companies will hire you. Have you researched your state unemployment office for CDL funding?

Put your location on your profile so we know the hiring area you live in.

I had considered a local CDL school but when my recruiter called me back and told me I was accepted to Prime's I kind of focused on them. If it doesn't work out there are other options I suppose but it would be very discouraging. Thank you for the tip about funding; I was unaware that existed. I guess I just assumed that if Prime were willing to ship me to Springfield, they had already done my background and approved it; it wasn't until reading more on these forums that I found out they might not have done any of that yet. I just don't want to go and get sent back; it would be pretty shameful.

    Grrrrrrr,

It is not a mistake if thought goes into it. Big pet peeve of mine when people assume that regret is a mistake.

I however do commend you for turning your life around. BUT, as some others have already said, this job is not a forgiving job. Drivers that succeed in this industry have PERFECT records, and you're going to be competing against these drivers.

Youre going to end up with a 20 page thread here with 50 million different answers. Call Prime in the morning AND TELL THE RECRUITER EVERYTHING!!! It's better to hear directly from the mouth of the devil.

I disagree on your definition of mistake; I didn't say it was an accident, or that it wasn't my fault- only that I made a decision and realized after it was wrong. If I am being truly honest, I knew it was wrong at the time and just didn't care, for whatever reasons. But that is semantics. I took responsibility for my actions and will continue to do so.
I do agree with you about the rest. I feel at this point my best option is to go and face it as it happens. I can only be honest and if they feel I am qualified, they will, and if not, they won't. But thank you for taking the time to respond.

Again, I commend you for taking responsibility, but if thought goes into it, then it's not a mistake. It's a choice.

Drinking is a choice. Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after you've been drinking is another choice. Thought goes into both. Killing someone because your idiot self got behind the wheel drunk can be considered a mistake. Running from the accident because you realized your mistake is a choice. A choice is not a mistake.
