I've had my class B cdl since 1992. I know that's all local driving, the most I've covered is 3 states. I start school tomorrow to upgrade to class A. Why has everybody I've talked to in the last 2-3 months told me not to get into OTR trucking? Most all jobs suck if ya think about it so what's the difference besides being away from home and family? I've always wanted to drive combination but never had the opportunity.
Why not drive a truck?

ScottM,
Glad you chose to get started in school. I started on 01/12 and love it yeah classroom is long but still some good info. Look forward to reading any info about school you may post. I was in the same boat as how you feel.ScottM Thanks this. -
Because I like driving. I've had the class b since 92 and my first job was at a truck stop. Two Uncles o/o, and I'm 46 and thinking that's the best way to finish my working years.

Some suck more than others. Ask yourself if your making a living. What did your home and family ever do to you to make you want to leave them?
There is nothing glamorous about OTR trucking. -

This is a job you have to want to do, or you WILL hate it, especially if you have a family with young children to support.
You will be mostly alone, and working long hours. That's a good fit for me, but not for everybody. -
I've driven, done factory work, and warehouse work, and wrenched. Driving , to me anyway, is the easier of the above careers. Your results may vary........
ScottM Thanks this.
