Not sure what direction as far as companies go. I got 3 offers from Werner, Western Express, and US Xpress. I also have an offer for a local company but the pay is around $13-$14/hr but the benefits are really good. I have some young kids and would like to be home at times but I know I need to make a decision. What route you think I should go out if anybody know of any companies in Virginia that hire recent grads.
In need of help in deciding what company to go

If you had to take one of them, I would suggest US Express, but you yourself have already made the choice... Home time with good benefits. Your not going to get that great paying job right off the bat, so I would go with what you know is going to work for you.
To answer your other question Averitt has 2 Services centers kind of close to you. Shenandoah and Winchester, and they hire grads right out of class as long as you meet criteria.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Chinatown Thanks this.

If you got kids I'd stay local. Very few truckers can make OTR work with a family at home.

Abilene Motor Express - good reputation.
That local job seems good, but $13-$14 hr. isn't good at all. Most local jobs you stay exhausted trying to beat the clock to get home, rest, and back to work.
Posts #2 & #3 are good suggestions. Post #4 is right if there's a weak link in the marriage; it will come to the forefront with OTR. All my ex-wives can attest to it; I'm neither bragging nor complaining...I love OTR. -
I wouldn't go over the road, ya kids don't deserve it.

Thanks for all the info. It's helpful to get as much knowledge as I can. I don't mind going over the road but from what I've heard about those companies, they promise one thing and don't deliver on it. I thought that $13-$14 was way too low. Hell, I made more from my last job. I'm trying to move forward. Thanks everybody

If you value those relationships as I'm sure you do I would take the low paying local job and get your experience and move up to a better paying local position. -
Go local man. Im otr wnd wife rides with me. Id give my left arm to be local right now. Check out Old Dominion.
