Do I have to join the union? And pay fees? I got a new job as a local driver for a grocery warehouse.

Unless you're in a right to work state? Yes. Think of it like paying for a service, through your employer. The "union", "fights" for wages and benefits. That any other employer also offers, but they (union) charge you for the service. So you don't have to ask for paid vacation or regular cola raises.

I used to be in that union out in California, left that job as soon I could. I will never join another union again.

Illinois is not a right-to-work state so yes you will have to join if you want that job.

It's like this, if the job you are at IS UNION, you must join before your probation time is up. Refuse to join? Look for another job. If the job you are at is NOT UNION? Then no worries.

have to wait 30 days before joining the union. and you have no choice if you want to work there. if you dont want to join, then find another job. doesnt matter if its a right to work state.

Actually, that is what right to work means.

You cannot be forced top join a Union in a right to work state.
But Illinois will freeze over before it becomes right to work. So OP, you are stuck joining the union.

The whole point of being a right to work state is to allow workers the choice of paying union dues or not....so if you don't want to join the union and you are in a right to work state, you do not have to join and you can keep your job. This is federal and state law.
