Do I have to join the union? And pay fees? I got a new job as a local driver for a grocery warehouse.

Unless you're in a right to work state? Yes. Think of it like paying for a service, through your employer. The "union", "fights" for wages and benefits. That any other employer also offers, but they (union) charge you for the service. So you don't have to ask for paid vacation or regular cola raises.

Illinois is not a right-to-work state so yes you will have to join if you want that job. -
JReding Thanks this.

have to wait 30 days before joining the union. and you have no choice if you want to work there. if you dont want to join, then find another job. doesnt matter if its a right to work state.

You cannot be forced top join a Union in a right to work state.
But Illinois will freeze over before it becomes right to work. So OP, you are stuck joining the union. -
worked 3 union jobs and they all sucked ...pay no better than non union or less ..bad tudes , ratty equipment , no pride and a general attitude of hooray for me and screw everyone else .
