I hope I explain this well end. I have a current cdl. Going thru Pride Transport orientation. Will then get a trainer they have a 2 phase program. Here is my question, why in the world are they wanting to charge me $4500.00 bucks and commit to at least 6 months or I will owe them the cash. Never have heard of this. Any info is GREATLY APPRECIATED, THANK!

Several trucking companies do this now; especially if it's a refresher course. They just want to ensure they don't waste time and money on a quitter job hopper. If the company can get you to stick around for 6 months, they at least will break even on the time and training. It's simply a business decision.

Thank you for some clarity. I will definitely read each and every word of it tomorrow. So are you saying if I give them at least the 6 months, the 4500 will vanish and I will owe nothing? Thanks.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
The company isn't trying to pull anything on you. They have an investment in you such as maybe, transportation costs to get to their orientation, lodging, meals, physical, drug test, background checks, administrative costs, etc. That adds up to a lot of money. Some drivers bail out in a few days for whatever reason, so the company has to absorb that cost.
You will be OK, from what I've been able to learn, that company has a very good reputation. -
Thanks a bunch! And yes the one who I will speak to tomorrow was... AWESOME. I can't imagine he being the type to... Try and blow smoke... Up my SKIRT!!

I worked for USF Logistics pulling reefers one time. We got in a real bind with much more freight than trucks, so Swift came to the rescue with a bunch of trucks and trailers and drivers. They also brought some dry vans for our dry loads. It was all over the airwaves that Swift bought USF Logistics and was voting in the Teamsters Union. It was funny listening to the CB radio how so many drivers had the inside secret information on the buyout and new Teamsters contract. USF Logistics wasn't union; they just assumed it was because USF Holland is union. It was crazy listening to all those stories. -

Sometimes it's a chore trying to distinguish truth from reality. During the Vietnam War on different occasions some Army guys told me they were close to the DMZ and killed a bunch of Chinese; maybe mercenaries. Sounded fishy to me, but what would I know, I was Navy mechanic. Much later, I asked a friend of mine who was a Army LRRP about this. He said,"That's BS those guys made that up." He spent most of his time North of the DMV and said if any Chinese were involved he would have spotted them during his 3 tours. Decades later, I married a Chinese woman from the mainland. He uncle lost a leg fighting the Americans in Vietnam; so you just never know; it's a wild world. She wanted me to meet him, but I declined. Off topic, but the concept is the same.Last edited: Jan 27, 2015

A 6 month commitment is easy...if that commitment is a two way street. I give them 6 months hard work as a good employee and they give me 6 months as a good employers with good training and fair treatment.
The cynic in me would be worried about being used and abused (so to speak) for those 6 months as I will basically be indentured labor. However, if that is the way "starter" companies are going, just have to suck it up and get it done I guess.Chinatown Thanks this.
