Years ago i worked in a wearhouse briefly and i remember that the truckers didn't offload. It made sense to me that the drivers drive. But i get the impression that this isnt always the case. Do most company drivers help offload? What about OOs?

For me, maybe 90/10 split. We only unload the furniture loads, I get 2-3 of them per month.

A lot of places I delivered to wouldn't even let drivers on the dock. Some places expected us to take the stuff off, but we have a hand jack for that, so no big deal. If you report a hand load/offload, you get a little extra for the trip. One place that was a pain in the ### refused to unload me and wouldn't let me on the dock. When I flagged down someone to find out why I was still sitting there, I was told they wouldn't unload me because I never took the straps and load bars off. I broke the rules and walked back there and took care of it. In the time that I sat there, I could've unloaded it and stocked the dang shelves myself. It was so childish.

If you do get into the unloading part of trucking, make sure you cover your ### in the event of damaged and/or missing product. In addition, some places might only require a simple unload of the pallets off onto the loading dock, while other places might require you to actually breakdown each and every pallet for a detailed inventory count.

I pull tankers and I would say maybe 30% of the time I do everything myself, 40% I do nothing and the other 30 I just supply a hose.

when I first started driving ,I would tear down and load textile machines in the trailer then drive and deliver, set up.
labor intensive. got paid good,motels and meals.
when I interviewed with this company ,I also asked a lot of my own questions.
1 question was if I would unload any cargo.
was told no driver unloads.
didn't really know if they would follow through until I stepped on a nail unblocking some forklifts.
got my ##### chewed out!!
was told "our company insurance doesn't cover me as a warehouse worker,only as a driver". we also own warehouses,so they insure differently, I guess.
about 12 yrs ago I left Heartland Express orientation on the 2nd day.
they wanted you to sign a paper saying I was willing and able to lift and carry 100 lbs 70 ft.
in my mind that means unloading a trailer of 100 lb bags. 445 bags= 44,500 lbs.
well they said,"oh, that's for just in case one falls off a pallet". yeah right.
I refused and was "asked" to leave. lol.

the only unloading i do is...............fuggedaboutit -
Refrigerated or dry freight you have to pay me really well to get me to fingerprint a load. Power no big deal, hook up a 4 or 5 inch hose the truck blows off the load, same loading is pull under a silo pull a lever or flip a switch ti it reads 79500.
flatbed I pull my chains or straps off then its all theres.
