Hey folks im hoping you can answer a question or 2 for me?
I do have obstructive sleep apnea. I have a Cpap machine which I actually love. I am supposed to be going to Stevens Transport to start their school. If I have apnea am I going to be able to get my medical card? If I already have my machine?:biggrin_25523:

    Thanks

Take along a copy of your last 3 months of usage. I too have sleep apnea and have had two physicals, since being diagnosed, by two unrelated doctors. Both took a look at my usage handed the paperwork back and signed off on a 1 year card. But I would ask Stevens if there are any other requirements since they in all likelihood have their own, in house, physicians or contracted group to do the physical for them.

But it is still feasable to drive with apnea? I mean there is obviously a place in the sleeper to plug my machine in right?

I use mine every night. I have an inverter though. There are 12 volt cigarette plugs you can by from your cpap's manufacturer. Check with your company to see if they have inverters or if you will need a 12v plug for it. If so, order it ASAP so you'll have it for orientation and training. Best of luck!!

I too use an inverter and have a cigarette lighter adapted cord as back up. To get your usage there is an SD card in the machine that records it. I take the SD card from both my machines to the pharmacy I bought my CPAP from and they print it off for free.

I was diagnosed in 1998 and been using a Cpap since. I have not had any trouble renewing my card.

Bring your machine. Stevens trucks all have 1800W inverters so there is a place to plug it in. You will have your usage checked every three months. My machine has an SD card that I take into the clinic and they dowoad it to ensure I am compliant, and off I go. You will have a 1 year med card.

Lots of drivers function fine with apnea as long as it is being treated.

Compliance is using the machine 4 hrs a day, 70% of the time.

They may want you to get a different machine then, but I am not sure. Dr Feelgood will let you know at your physical.
