Did I ruin my trucking career before I even started school?

It'll never come up unless you make mention of it. The only way it might come up is if you were applying to drive for a carrier who hauled sensitive or dangerous materials and required security clearance and ran extensive background checks to include your military record. Typically the average carrier won't bother to pull any military background.

 

15 years is long enough, dont worry about it

 

Only problem you might encounter is trying to get into CANADA they go back as far as they can on criminal charges checking.

They can also check MILITARY RECORDS

 

Canada is ridiculous with how they do that with American drivers going in. Like they don't drink up there and American drivers are all drunks

 

I went thru a similar experience and I wouldn't worry about it, most companies insurance determine how far they search back from 3 to 10 years, they can search your MVR from the time you were issued your 1st license at 16 till present if they want. As far as Military record as long as you were discharged honorably and your DD214 says such they don't search beyond that, no need to. I worked in recruiting and when you need drivers, its if the insurance will cover the driver most of the time, a road test, previous employment verification, MVR check, DAC & PSP check and pre employment drug screen results and if everything checks out your good to go.

I wouldn't pay much mind to it. It's all about your MVR. If you discharged honorably as well, they aren't going to delve into that. Good luck to you and thank you for your service.

 

PSP, DAC and MVR are all reports that are important to your career as a truck driver, that fall's under the FMCSA guidelines. I suggest you get a copy of all 3, they are not expensive but, can be an eye opener if you decide to get a new job or another job. Since your a student, you won't have anything on your PSP or DAC but, your MVR may,,,even if you think you are sure it doesn't, I would still check.
