    Hello,

I joined this forum a few months ago and now, just short time later, I completed my 166 Hour course at my driving school, passed my Class-A CDL road test and am now looking to start out making some serious money with a long term career at a good company. But how should I go about this? Apply to random jobs on craigslist? Or could anyone recommend a great company that pays well? Is it too late to get on the oil field bandwagon? From what I hear, Tanker is a good place to start out making a great salary. I have nothing holding me down and I am willing to relocate to any part of the U.S. for a great paying career. I have an exceptional work and personal record, a Class-A CDL with Tank/HazMat*, Doubles/Triples, Tow Truck, Metal Coil endorsements, plus OSHA-10 GI, H2S, TWIC, FAST* and a passport.

    * = Tank/HazMat and FAST applications are processing now as I just passed my road test three days ago and I had to wait until I had my CDL license.

Congrats on your cdl.You have a lot of endorsements you should be able to find a good company.Tanker does very well.Watch those craigslist ads.I would drive for a company not one person.I do see ads for drivers in the oil field so maybe its starting to pick back up again. With all your endorsemnets make van and reefer you very last resort.Try and stay away from the mega carriers.See if you can find a company with a low turnover rate.I say thins because you want your first company to be a long and successful exp and I very much doubt that will happen with a mega carrier.I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming career and many yrs to come.

Move to Houston if you want tanker. Lots of companies down there. If you can't get on with one of the top outfits and you very well may not as a rookie then go Schneider Bulk. Do a year then pick up a rock and throw it, whatever tanker you hit, yeah they are probably hiring.

Congrats from me too... Hoping to pass my skills tests here soon too.

About the endorsements, that sounds like a long list and several I have never heard of. Are there different kinds that the normal ones offered at the State level like doubles/triples, tanker, HazMat, Passenger, etc? I know HazMat takes more take and money as there is a Federal background check involved but thought that was all the endorsements. Obviously still learning here too.

    Good advice right there.
Move to Texas; no personal income taxes in Texas.
Here's some companies to contact & tell them you're willing to relocate. That 166 hr. school and all those endorsements, you won't have any problems finding a high paying job.

    Trimac Transportation
    Groendyke Transport
    A&R Logistics
    SVTN
    Superior Carriers
    Tidewater Transit
    CTL Transportation
    Schneider Bulk

Thanks for everyone's congratulations and suggestions.

I am open to other positions then just tanker, it was just I heard you make the most out of the gate and in general with tankers.

So as far as Texes goes (just as an example). Living there vs Working there. If I "live" there, I need to turn in my NY CDL for a TX CDL and retake the road exam/endorsements While if I just "work", I won't have to do any of that?

What about other states that have Oil fields/fracking like North Dakota, West Virgina? Have all the great paying jobs dried up at this point since oil dropped so much?

What kind of pay would I be looking at a year if I wanted as much hours as they could give me?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

i would personally avoid Craig's list, I would talk to as many recruiters as possible, ask as many questions as you can, starting pay, average miles per week, home time (how many days off per week out), benefits, ext ext,
from what I've been hearing, oil field in Texas is slowing, but N. Dakota is doing fine, tankers is a good place to start, try Schneider, I hear they have a good starting pay for tankers,
best of luck with you new career
