Hello everyone, I have recently obtained my CDL license. I must say it wasn't as easy as I had envisioned it. I live in Chicago and want to start with a good company that will offer me the opportunity to go local after a few months. Maybe LTL or intermodal... does anyone work out of Chicago? I'm looking into Old Dominion or Schneider. Any advice? Thanks.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

If you can get on with Old Dominion, don't even think twice. That is one of the best LTL carriers out there and they take care of their drivers. Schneider does have intermodal out of there but it's no comparison, OD all the way.

If you want LTL, all of the majors have terminals in Chicagoland, Conway, Old Dominion, SAIA, ABF, hell, anyone who pulls doubles and triples....some are union shops and you can make real good money and be home every night....they are ALWAYS looking for drivers...

Come on man, no need to be discriminatory. I could say something about you and what sort if people inhabit Warren Michigan.

Your destiny is sitting behind a liquor store counter and ruining drugs through the back room.

Dart Express has 3 terminals; drive day cabs and hire new CDL grads, local driving.

You have ABF and YRC in South Holland along with Conway, OD, and all the rest. With such a driver shortage you don't have to go OTR or mega anymore. All of these LTL carriers have their own finishing schools. Nice thing is they pay well with good benefits. LTL turnover is relatively low as opposed to Schneider and the rest of the bottom feeders out there taking advantage of folks new to the industry.

I know NEMF (New England Motor Freight) is hiring out of their Elk Grove Village terminal. Also try Old Dominion in Des Plaines. Best of luck to you.
