    Hi,

I will be getting my cdl within a few weeks and am looking to go regional northeast (I live in ny and would like to do my resets at home if possible). Any recommendations for a good starter company (good mentor training) that has northeast regional jobs? I'm looking at Roehl and Schneider jobs - other suggestions? Also - I was told by recruiters that regional experience is looked at the same as otr as far as having a year of experience - just confirming that that is correct.

    Thanks.

CR England......jk don't do that! Check out Maverick too they start at .40+ cpm range. Roehl I believe has the 7/7/, 14/7/, etc rotational shifts so you get real home time and not out for 10 years just to get 2 days off. If you're getting your CDL by yourself look locally and you can probably skip OTR companies all together.

oh and yes some companies will consider 1yr Regional equivalent to the same as OTR if it was 6 states or more, but not all will .... if your able to sacrifice being out 2-3 weeks there are plenty of companies that will take you out of school, as long as you don't have reckless driving, DUI's, major felonies and or federal offenses or drug charges 3-5 years before most will consider you with anything I just listed..<

I would start by looking at craigslist ads in your area. Many places are hard up for drivers right now and some would take you right out of school. Just be ready for recruiters to lie to you. Any job that seems too good to be true probably is. If you do go OTR with Schneider or another company, you could probably jump ship at 6 months and get a local gig.

Check out YRC, Conway, and Old Dominion in your area. All of them are hiring out of truck driving school. How close are you to Maybrook because all of those companies I mentioned have terminals in that area. I do know YRC has a terminal in Brooklyn as well. Not sure about OD or Conway but if others on the forum can help I'm sure they will.

What part of ny are you in to let us help you better? Deff try to get a ltl gig just make sure to have all your endorsements. If your in the Binghamton area check out willow run and Maines. Both are similar to ltl except its two 2 day runs a week and your unloading every bit of that trailer yourself. About 1000 per week average, not to bad for a 4 day week and still being a green horn. You will learn to back that baby in places you never thought possible

EDIT they both hire out of school, and check out McLane while your at it also. Senior drivers there are averaging 75-80k even more in some places I've heard over 90k but you will learn the meaning of psychical labor. Good home time too
