OK a newbie question here, the truck I'm riding in now team has an outside power outlet that I have a few ideas what its for but nothing definite and the other codriver doesn't know either and says he has never used it.
1) engine block heater
2) to power the truck so you dont have to use the apu or keep it running
Outside power outlet use?

Most likely a block heater. The truck I'm in has 2, one for a block heater and one for shore power. Previous trucks just had one, and it was for a heater.
tscottme Thanks this. -
If it's on the drivers side follow the wiring...
If it goes strait to the engine top end it's a block heater....
never seen a shore power set up in person so I can't help...... -
Its for your trk on those extremely cold days.kb has them and at the end of the drivers shift they plug the trks in.On weekends the mechanics put the day cabs in the garage.

or oil pan heater.

That's required for the extra amps a vibrating bunk bed draws!
Seriously, it's almost for sure a block heater but to be safe get a looksie at under the hood wiring. -
does the cap/ cover on it not say what its for?
and where is it located?
my volvo has one under the driver door area and the black cover says block heat. theres one more under the bunk area that says shore power. -
My current job, I plug in my truck each night, to keep the engine warm, so to the o/p, if you have a truck with such a plug, use it all the time you are parked at your terminal, or if you take the truck home, plug it there. If no electrical outlet available to you, oh well. We all cannot have that, so don't worry about it. -
Yeah I just followed the cables and it looks like it goes to the engine so I'm assuming it is a heater. Thanks for all the replies

plugs in the front of the driver door are usually engine heat.
plugs under the sleeper are usually for shore power.
that's usually the location for the 2 plugs.
