I've been driving back and forth over Vail Pass 3x's/night for the last 8 years and I'm burned out. 31 years old and going grey, I'm looking for a change. I think statistically speaking I've died at least twice. A little sunshine and new scenery would be worth the pay cut I'm expecting but would my experience give me a shot somewhere respectable? I have a dog (Malcom) that rides with me now and I won't get rid of him. I'll probably think of some more questions. Any advice at all is appreciated greatly.

Does it have to be OTR driving? With that kind of experience you should be able to go anywhere that's hiring and get work. Local , regional , whatever.

I guess it doesn't have to be OTR but staring at the same stretch of road night after night/day after day is something I'd prefer to get away from. I'm glad to hear my options are open. I'm single and don't plan on keeping a place of my own so home time isn't a concern for me.

Understood , I was gonna suggest a local deal doing LTL , food service , fuel hauling , they all pay really well , but are for the most part route running jobs. Might not be what you are looking for. But with your experience , as long as the driving record is clean you shouldn't have any trouble at all. If he doesn't post here soon to give you names of companies , try sending Chinatown a PM...he'll be able to give you some options. Try to put your location up for posters to see , who knows maybe some one near you can offer some places to check out.

So you and Malcom want to hit the road? Same thing happened to me decades ago. So, what do you want to do? Where do you want to go? All over? Run as hard as yu can for a few years and bank your money? Go fishing in different spots of North America on your breaks? Sounds like fun.

Youve been driving for a few years and you find snow and mountains boring. I would think that companies will be blowing up your phone. Make them pay you for what you know, okay?

Good questions. Yes, I want to run all over, max my HOS and bank my money. I might be playing video games instead of fishing but it does sound nice :) Thanks for the advice.

try fishing when you get to nice spots. You can play video games anywhere and any time. And Malcom will enjoy it more. Adventure, brother...adventure.

You just reminded me I have a portable fishing rod around here somewhere so I just might do that. For Malcom.

Just don't get caught in a state fishing without a permit or licence. It would be fun to do, but legally it is a pain in the rear, since you have to find somewhere to get a 1-3 day licence every time you find a new body of water.

OP you have more then enough exp to go anywhere.Just need to figure out what exactly you wanna haul where you wanna run.I take it this is your first company and for 8 yrs.You can write your own ticket.I doubt any companies would turn you down unless you have an unsatisfactory mvr.
