Don't get me wrong, I knew going in to this that finding work would be tough until 21.

I've applied to a few local companies, as well as to Coke.

Other than that it seems everyone (even the straight truck companies) want 21 year olds. It's slightly frustrating but everyday I just gotta keep checking Indeed.com, Craigslist, etc. looking for openings. I won't need a job until Early April anyhow.

Does anyone know of any positions open ANYWHERE in Texas (although North Texas is preferred right now)??

Companies want people who are at least 21 due to insurance costs. I don't know if this helps, but try companies that haul building materials locally/job sites, ie lumber yards or similar. Next, try some outfits that run dump trucks, then junk yards, then just drive around areas where smaller trucking companies are and ask around. On craigslist, call and ask if they don't have age requirements (I think you did) even if they do just try. Keep looking, you'll find something. Also, go to companies with warehouses and see if you can get on with them shuttling trailers around/maybe loading as well.

Thanks! I did some of that but I will keep doing that and also drive around some warehouses and ask around.

I would gladly take a job shuttling trailers around as a first job in trucking (good practice!).

I got my start in trucking by going on the wheat harvest. They would be putting crews together right now.

That's interesting. How would I go about finding a job like that?

Construction companies, paving crews, rock quarries, asphalt plants, the Department of Transportation (they have service trucks and stuff too), crane and rigging outfits (the big cranes always have a truck or 2 following), big construction sites/power plants/refineries, rail yards, ports, airports...

Somebody give a young man a job! I like to see a young man that wants to work.

Forgot to mention, my first flatbed gig required me to work the yard for a few weeks until I felt comfortable tarping and securing loads. Look for any local trucking companies and see if they need help on the yard.

My first ever driving gig was a 24 ft moving truck. I got it through a temporary company. I might have been 18? But it was for Mid American Entertainment Company. They would set up the rings for the wrestling matches, stages for concerts, private parties...etc. Back in the day, there was this big country music concert in Ft Payne, Alabama put on by the group Alabama. I had to take a load to Teddy Gentry's (their front man) home...he was throwing some sort of big party. Hey man, it's a start.

Now I don't know much about the DFW area, but I do remember an Econolodge motel to the northeast if Dallas. Spent 3 weeks drinking beer in that motel. It's near the 635 loop (Irving?). Well, it's where all the bedbuggers congregate. On the weekends, it looks like a bedbuggers infestation. Go talk to the bedbuggers about being a lumper. If you are honest, prompt and hardworking, I am sure one of them will give you work. And once your name gets out, you should be able to keep busy.

But Six, he wants a driving job.

Foot in the door. Bed buggers have straight trucks too.
