Say you have 20 miles to go to get to your receiver and your 14 hour clock just expired right as you pulled into a rest stop. You will miss your appointment time two hours from now.

    Do you do it?

    the law is the law

if you are finished with your 14hrs, you are to stop

the law was not made for reality, but is used to enforce arbitrary rules on drivers that experience daily nuances

you should have done better trip planning

and if this is a friday and they wont open until monday morning, .............o well

That is basicly where you are. Stuck
Most if not all training company's have e-logs. So no getting around that one.
If on paper you could make it look right, but it is not legal. And if you just happened to get into an accident in that 20 miles. Say, you are at a light and a drunk hits your truck. You will be 100% at fault in court if you should not have been there. And you will go to prison if they die in that instance. And you will loose everything you own.
    Just sayn

My take is you shoulda known way before pulling into that rest area that the appointment time in 2 hrs was never gonna happen and made the proper arrangements.

I usually just pull to the shoulder and shut'er down. I heard if you run one minute over 14 a baby seal gets clubbed to death. 5 minutes and an angel loses it's wings. Not taking chances.
