So, it looks like after a lot of research I will probably be going to school in July! Very excited. I will be going to a community college. The guy who runs the program says he doesn't think I will be able to get anything local (not that I can't try) but he still thinks I will be able to get regional (LOTS of job opportunities around here in NE PA).
What do you think? I was in an accident and got a ticket for driving to fast for road conditions (from the accident, which only involved my car), that happened in June 2012. So by the time July rolls around, it will be over 3 years old.
Just curious about what you guys think. I am considering Shaffer/Crete but am fearful because I am overweight and I don't want to go through a sleep apnea test that could be bogus? We will see where the road takes me I suppose.
Probably starting school in July

UM hate to tell but your MVR will show it for five years when you go to get work after you get your CDL. Sleep apnea test get it! if you have sleep Apnea you will do yourself, your family and all those on the road a favor. do you want to fall asleep at the wheel? and kill some innocent family? or yourself?

Also, what I was saying with the Crete/Shaffer thing is from what I researched they diagnose pretty much everyone they test as having sleep apnea. I do not have issues with sleeping, or staying awake. If I did this probably wouldn't be a career I would be considering as I know the different sleep patterns it entails. -

When I went through school to get my cdl, I told my instructor I wanted to get a local job, he looked right at me and said, no, no you don't. He asked me why I would want to go right into 100 percent city driving without knowing how to actually drive. I was like dude, I'm 40 years old, I know how to drive. Soooo..... we spent 8 hours driving in in the city, trafic, work zones, tight backs, tighty rightys..ectt..and he effictivly taught me in fact, I had no idea how to drive. Actually, I was very poor at it. He convinced me to run the road, learn to operate, the machine and then, if I want, go local, fine So, I would ask you the same question he asked me. As far as your sleep concerns, sir.. if there is even a chance, even the smallest chance, you could zonk out at the wheel, find out, get your mask or whatever and fix it, then grip it and rip it. *drops mic, walks off stage

Some companies don't require another physical; will accept your DOT physical card from CDL school. They only require a drug test.
Paschall Truck Lines
Freymiller
TransAm
Freymiller is the best of these three. Call and ask about the physical in case policy has changed. Don't mention being overweight.hoovified Thanks this. -
