I read they only pay 65% of the load if you have no trailer. I've read other companies paying more. What makes Landstar better?

As they say 65% of $3 dollars is a lot better than 65% of $2. So even though it may be 70% its not better. I am looking at there board and right now 24,000 loads roughly. I look at Schneider choice board and I see 6500. There is no comparison between the two. I have been in both. I have access to both also. Mercer is decent also even though I don't have access to there board anymore. Do you want the ability to choose your own freight or do you want to have it done for you. That is the first question. If your new Schneider choice percentage is a good start to learn the ropes. After my first year I wanted the ability to run even more independent. I went with landstar and loved it until I finally got my own authority and have not looked back since. Ultimately what you need to ask yourself what kind of flexibility are you looking for and decide from that.

65% is standard in the industry.

However, I have read that many of those 24,000 loads on the LS board are the some load re-posted by multiple agents/agencies, making the actual number of loads much smaller. In addition the 6,500 loads at SN are all van loads while the LS loads are for all kinds of trailers, some of them needing specialty trailers. Is this information incorrect?

True there are 24,000 for all types of loads. As far as posting by multiple agents. That's a tough one because one agent usually handle the same account not two. But u never know. I never ran into that because I used the same guy which helps. Schneider yes u have nothing but van true but u also has to realize Schneider pulls landstar freight all the time to fill that board up. Plus u are competing with company drivers and third party carriers they pay 90% of the load to. You could have the load ad booked and then poof schneider will broker it off to someone else. That's
the reality of it.. Landstar is strictly owner operator. No company driver.

I look at it like this. Landstar gets nominated year after year as best fleets for owners. Ever see Schneider mentioned. nope. Don't tell me show me is all u need to know.

Mercer might be another option to think about also. Very good and more hands on which may be more beneficial to you. you have to ask yourself what is more important to you. Mercer would make of great fit for you. th
ere are mini options to choose from. because you are new I personally would go with Schneider to learn the business. HAVE a great day.

The only thing with Landstar you muzt have and maintain hazmat on your license but you do not have to pull it. That puts me out cause i dont have nor want hazmat. I am a flatbedder so i dont know much about box or refer companies but warren is a good company so ive heard. Im currently with western express, thats who im buying my truck through and besides them being a training company they keep me busy and treat me right. I dont have the ability to go on a load board and pick my freight but i do have the ability to reject loads i dont want without penalty. My dm is the director of specialized and is very good. He knows what i want to run and where and keeps me loaded in the areas and freight i like so i cant complain.
