Hello all, I am considering getting my CDL have looked into local schools and I am planning on enrolling soon. But when I was 18 I received 2 driving related alcohol charges within a couple months of each other one was a DUI other a BAC under 21, with the BAC under 21 charge I was not over the legal limit but there is a zero tolerance law in my state.. I am 36 now I was very young and ignorant then and both of those charges were over 15 years ago now, since I rarely drink now and have been free of anything similar since.. Over the last 10 years my driving record has been virtually flawless, no at fault accidents 2 minor speeding tickets none in the last 3 years. My question is will my bad judgement over 15 years ago when I was young and mentally immature with my judgement make it so I am unemployable now, I hope not because I have changed so much since then. Any facts about my situation would be greatly appreciated, I am not sure how far back employers will look and just don't want to waste my time and money if I will be unable to find a job. Thanks and safe travels friends

It may be an issue with some carriers but you'll be ok and find work

A few real picky companies don't accept any dui's ever. Roehl is one of them but they're not even that great of a company anyway. A large majority of companies want no DUI's in the last 10 years OR LESS. Some 5, bottom of the barrel companies probably would hire you if you had a DUI yesterday. You'll be fine

Stressing out for nothing, 15 years is long enough. But those speeding tickets.....when you say minor....how much is minor to you

Most carriers look at the last 3 years of your mvr, as do most insurance companies. Policies differ when it comes to DUI. Some will not ever hire anyone who has ever had a DUI. Others will allow one in the last 5, 7 or 10 years. It has been long enough where it may not matter to most carriers. I would not lie on the application. Some will have a time limit on alcohol or drug related offenses and others don't. You might call around, but I think you should be able to find a carrier who will take you on.

After the time and money you spend on obtaining a cdl and you slip up, that's when you will really pay the piper. Meaning trying to stay employed and further your earning potential. Not much wiggle room for opsies. Good luck.

Oh. My. God. Why haven't you been executed for your bad behavior????? Lol. The DUIs are old. Some companies will not take you, but that's pretty few. The 1-5 is no issue. The 11-15 is depending on how old it is.

As long as it is over 10 years I honestly dont think it will be a problem at all. Same issue came up with a buddy of mine, he had no problem finding a job driving though.

If worse comes to worst, you can drive for Carolina Cargo - they will hire convicted felons so traffic tickets are a breeze.
