Starting my cdl course with mesilla valley training insitute soon. My question is should i look for employment in my area? If so what companies are the best. I want to be home every 2 days, 3 max and weekends off sometime, or be able to request weekends off.

I am a veteran also if that helps with employment.

If there is no good companies, relocation has been thought about with my family and I but where to?

It's a big country, colder in the north, hotter in the south. More freight upper midwest. El Paso is a good place, lots of NAFTA freight going back and forth. Home every 2-3 days, weekends off? Might want to find an LTL local firm, maybe straight trucks local delivery. Concrete/dirt hauler? Best, George.

Well, George, where wo ld you go to back Wednesday night? Dallas? Maybe LTL would work, but OTR companies want to give you one day off for one week of driving, and not every week either.

You'd better find one of those companies in your area. There are tons of trucks and trucking companies in the El Paso and Santa Teresa area. But be warned...they are going to want you to work.

With no experience you probably wont find anything local. Do your year over the road, and move on to better things. That's the norm.

You might find a class a trucking job like this in fantasy land since you no experience. Plus work 4 off 3? Good luck with that lol

Get all the endorsements plus TWIC ID card.Google for nearest TWIC office.
Apply for hazmat/tanker jobs. Many hire new CDL grads even though the website has "experience required."
They bend their own hiring rules for high quality applicants.

Trimac Transportation is one of the best for annual pay; $65K avg. plus in 24 months if you qualify for the "Elite Fleet" can make over $100K.

    More tanker jobs:

    Groendyke Transport
    SVTN

    Other:

Southeastern Freight Lines - LTL home every day
    ABF Freight - home daily
    YRC Freight - home daily
    Western Dairy Transport

Start submitting applications the first day of CDL school, online or in person; either is OK.
