So who has gone and did a stint in the fields of ND? Is it still worth it? I've talked to people and they said they're clearing over two grand a week working up there averaging about 75 to 80 hours a week hourly pay. it seems like a good short term gig. do it for a season and raise some good cash.

It's gonna be tough now that gas is so low. They were laying off drivers at the start of the year. Best to wait until gas jumps up again before heading north.

I go to the auto store, and get all the oil I need for cheap. I get all the gasoline I need for even cheaper, today, $1.95/9

Seriously, the pay "may have" been good, but then too, no one will tell you exactly what they make, other than the employer hiring you, so set aside the BS you hear.

If you want to work in sub-zero temps, and all kinds of hardship living conditions, then go for it. I think I can safely say that I am not in a minority of those that want a comfortable place to sleep, stay warm and out of the weather, as much as possible.

If and I say if what I heard is true, the oil fields are going so slow now, many are leaving. The Arabs saw us doing all that work, and since they were losing sales to us, they lowered the prices on barrels of oil. Those poor Arabs, not being able to go out and buy thier fleets of new Rolls Royce's on a daily basis, must have sucked.

Never believe what people say they are making, never any truth to it, except for me. I clear over $40,000 per week, and you can take that to the bank, and get arrested for forgery.

That was probably perfectly doable you could gross $800+ just working at wal-mart. Drivers were probably making closer to 3k a week in the beginning I was there for 5 years, made my money and got out when it took a nose dive. You'll have to ask people still there, wouldn't be worth it to me at this time as they're lowering wages overall and it sucks out there other than for money and if there's no more money to be made in ND, there's no need to be there, it's a worthless state other than the oil.

Worked a month in ND a few years ago. Maybe some of the experienced guys made $2k/week at 80 hours, but not the new hires.

More like $2k for 120 hours/week. I didn't mind the cold or the work, but at 6 hours/sleep for 4 weeks I was becoming an accident waiting to happen. Pulled a number of other trucks out of the ditch, saw a few overturned, and daily "water" spills (at >10 lbs/gal -- it was not water it was a toxic brine mix).

I left with my record (& health) in tact. Kudos to those who can hack it though

Talking to someone on an Army FB board. he said he was hired on with experience at $21/hr +3 for nights, time and a half after 40 and is pulling in about 75-85 hours a week. Said he is living in his RV and is paying $600 a month for a site. Said Mancamps run about $400 a month up there. He has been up there since last summer and was making more when the weather was thawed out. His plain is to work thru the summer and split before the next winter. Said he goes home to tx once every 90 days for 10 days at a time. And plane ticket runs him about $500-$600.

Wondering if others have similar stories.
