Some schools do the endorsements. Find out if the one you're going to does or not. IMO, the tanker endorsement itself is a cinch, whether you get it through a school or not.. just a written test. Hazmat used to be more the same.. then, since 05, you have to get fingerprinted, do the TSA background check, pay $94 or whatever for all that ####... I had mine grandfathered in prior to 05, then I had to renew my NC CDL in 2010... that was $220 on its own, and I didn't feel like spending another $94 for an endorsement I really never used.
You want passenger, that includes a road test along with the written. School bus endorsement also includes a background check, to make sure you don't have a history of being a kiddie fondler. Doubles/triples... you can take that one for ##### and giggles... it's basically the Combination Vehicles written test, rehashed.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Haha ok so tanker is easy hazmat sounds like a crap ton of work...is it worth getting though ? Also do you know of any sponsored schools that offer it in Texas

Any endorsement that you're company does not require, you'll have to get those on your own free time.

Where in TX do you live?
It is, however, very simple to do on your own. Everything is in the Texas CDL handbook. Read a section(s) then take the test for it. I'd pay special attention to your General Knowledge and Airbrakes.
In Texas the tests you MUST take for your CDL Permit are General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Texas Special Requirements (I think they just call it Texas CMV Regs now) and Pre-Trip/Post-Trip.
After you get your permit, then take HAZMAT, Tanker and Doubles/Triples. Those endorsements don't even show up until you pass your CDL Driving Test.
Give yourself plenty of time on HAZMAT (lots of companies will even pay the fees if you wait to get it after you are hired). There is a lot of important info there.
You don't HAVE to get the endorsements but it's recommended because it makes you fully marketable.
If you haven't started on a program yet (and you live in the DFW area), check out MT Training Center in Grand Prairie. They do it all! I graduated from there just this week! -
Don't know where you're from if all states are the same and even here it may have changed by now but when I got my cdl it was $10 to take a written test but that same $10 would cover every test you wanted to take. When I went in to take my written test for my learners permit and air brakes I had them add haz mat, tanker and doubles/ triples so I wouldn't have to pay another $10 later. Plus they charged $20 something every time you got a new license printed so adding endorsements one at a time would get costly. I let my haz mat go when they started the finger printing deal since I wasn't using it anymore. I'm just now working on getting it back so I can get on at landstar
