For discussion's sake, let's say you are a company driver and are involved in a collision where it was determined that you were at fault. I know that the company should have it's own insurance policy for it's own interests, but how would you be prepared to be named as an individual who is at fault? I am sure that the insurance policy protects the company, but what happens when that company literally throws the driver under the bus to avoid an at fault finding?

The driver bears no financial liability for the crash, however, any fines the driver receives have to be paid and if someone is killed and manslaughter charges are filed, the driver is the one who stands trial. Driving is a high risk profession to say the least, and when the carrier tosses you to the wolves, it can get quite serious.

Simple answer.. Don't hit anything or anyone.. ever .. You'll be fine

But that doesn't really answer the question, if the driver is named as another responsible party, how does the driver protect himself?

Hire an attorney

The real protection is not driving.. Whole up stay put

You would have to ask an insurance agent whether or not some kind of personal liability umbrella policy would cover this kind of situation. And of course that kind of policy you would have to pay for on your own. But there really isn't anything to cover you legally as far as a criminal charge goes.
