Is there such a thing as a truck driving job where you don't have to drive at night? I love driving but staring at a road on illuminated by headlights totally sucks. Driving during the day is a pleasure and staying alert is so much easier.

Also, who is a good company that does NOT go EAST of I-95! I just had my first experience with NYC/Long Island and HATED it!

Helpful information would be nice. Don't bother answering if all you have is negative comments.

    Thank you!

When it's like daylight saving, you will be only working like 4-5 hours....can you live with a 200 a week paycheck? Try local work and work 1st shift or 2nd. No matter what u gna have a drive a few hours at night

I don't know of any companies that just run in daylight hours unless it a Pepsi truck delivering to grocery stores. Several companies offer regional runs and several are "No NYC" and "No Canada."
For night driving what I do is wear tinted glasses, turn the interior dash lights on dim, lower the sun visors because my eyes hate bright lights. I wear prescription sunglasses day and night. Doing that plus my favorite XM Radio stations and a thermos of hot coffee make night driving relaxing to me. Don't know if all this will work for you.
Ozark Motor Lines - no NYC/no Canada
Check with Dutch Maid and ask if they run NYC. They're based in Ohio.
PI&I Motor Express has terminals in Ohio and offers regional runs. They sometimes hire new CDL grads even though it's not on the website.

There's always local driving that has A.M and P.M positions. When I was OTR I use to start my day no later then 3 am but very rarely drive all night. It depends a lot on your dispatcher. My dispatchers could see the hrs im most productive and would try to find me loads that fit my hrs.

Get some experience, keep your nose clean. After a year or so with a clean driving record, doors will start opening. Look on indeed.com. A local driver probably has a better chance of working days than a OTR guy.

Best to look for a local job where you are if you want days. Maybe its not as populated there. Upstate NY and most of the northeast now sucks during daytime hours if your actually trying to get things done. What use to be morning and evening rush hours near most cities and towns are pretty much from sun up to sun down any more. Ill take an early evening start any chance I can now. Far less stressful.

Heck, Upstate NY is easy. It is when you get to the south east part of the state that it sucks. Albany and west is easy money. I lived and drove it for 15 years. I wanted nothing more than for them to sell that southeast corner of the state to Jersey, including all of NYC. They sucked down all our tax money for way too long.

In Ohio you may want to look at some company's like White Line Express, and some others that haul allot of auto parts. They do not go that far east, and have allot of good home time if you are near them.
White line needs 6 mo experience. SO you should be fine, and the pay is no bad from what I have heard.

Is it even possible to run OTR and never drive at nights?
Time zones and hour restrictions would complicate things.

Go too far west or east and the time zones change and the sun sets earlier/later.
Sunny at 7am in PA, but in CA it's still 4am and dark out.

I find it absurd you don't like NYC, or Long Island. Where else are you gonna get great kraut dogs, hot pretzels and warm bagels, at nearly every street corner..???

You gotta learn to live a little, and enjoy some of life's tiny little secrets.

By the way, what are going to do in downtown Chicago, downtown Miami, Los Agelese, downtown Houston, and Phenix AZ, Washington, DC....?
