Hey guys. I'm a new driver. I will be getting out of CDL school in a week. I'm also currently in the military, the Marines. I get out in August and wanna transfer straight into a job. Right now Schnieder and TMC are my two top choices. They both seem to have pretty good reviews. But I am new to this and would like some input. Give me what ever advice you have on these companies and any others anyone thinks would be good. Im in North Carolina. I don't mind getting endorsements on whatever I need or doing whatever kind of trucking. Thanks

Get the tanker/hazmat endorsements plus TWIC ID Card. Google for nearest TWIC office. TWIC is used for entry to military bases, chemical plants, sea ports.
If you go with Schneider, go with Bulk division(tankers).

    Schneider Bulk
    Tidewater Transit
    Groendyke Transport
    CTL Transportation
    SVTN
    Superior Carriers
    Timac Transportation
    Abilene Motor Express
    Navajo Express
    Freymiller

Melton is OK if you can deal with a camera staring at you.

TMC trucks are capped at 61 and SNI is 63. nothing terrible or anything. I didn't go with TMC I had enough of the military bs and sick of the boot camp mentality of TMC... They've got good training and your home most weekends. SNI no idea I here good things thou. I went with melton instead of TMC For my starter company. Things are working out well. Only true option I see is flatbed inside of that there is Byod Bros, Maverick, TMC, Melton, starter company wise I consider. Yes they're others jus wasn't interested with slave wages. melton also allows you to pull from post 9/11 or GI bill jus like TMC. Goodluck PM me and I can answer most questions if you're interested in melton.

a big advantage at TMC you will learn how to secure many different types of loads on flats and steps,,not sure if they have RGNs but the experience will help if you ever want to get into oversize and heavy haul in the future where you can make a lot more money than dry van reefer or even tanker work,,I know company drivers that make $80-95K a year driving RGNs, much better people to deal with with specialized freight compared to warehouse checkers,,

Tanker or flatbed. Pick your poison. Or jump on dry van if you're feeling naughty

Howard Transportation is a private flatbed carrier for Howard Industries. One of their terminals is in Kenly, NC

I used to drive by one of their terminals in MS and they hauled electrical transformers out of that factory.

Keep it in perspective; with any company, all that fancy chrome, shiney paint, lights, belong to the company, not the driver. All that stuff is just a recruiting gimmick.

I have worked with both Schneider and tmc, with that said pick tmc if you like your family and want to make good money too. I averaged about $800+ a week and was home every weekend and I averaged $450+ at Schneider and got home every other weekend. I only pulled van with Schneider so I can't speak for the other divisions.

Schneider is where we started and we had a great experience. We were dry van but I would suggest going tanker. The experience pulling a tanker will pay off in the long run. If you enjoy it there, then by all means stay there. If you want to move on after a year or so, then there are tanker companies that pull chemicals that pay really well and there is oil or fuel that pay really well.
