Can someone please educate me when it comes to hiring on with a company and your distance from their closest terminal location? I will attempt to get hired in a tanker division and I'm located in a very rural area in south Georgia, about 45 min to a large city. When it comes to hauling in general, do companies require you to live within a certain radius? Thanks a lot for any advice. I appreciate it.

most only require you to live in the area they serve,,some like Walmart especially after the accident Walmart had in New Jersey last year want drivers to live close to their terminals, each company will have it's own rules.
If you live in Georgia a private carrier called Letica has a factory and terminal near Valdosta might want to contact them ,,look them up on the net their home office is in Mich,
Be realistic you need to be with in a hour or two of most terminals or where they have customers where you will load or drop a trailer,,

Thank you for your responses. I will check out Letica. I want to utilize my hazmat/tanker endorsement. Really trying to get on with a good company so I don't have to jump around to make good money.

Many companies bend their hiring rules for high quality applicants. Submit applications and let the companies decide to hire you or not.
For example, Schneider Bulk (tankers) wants drivers to live within 75 miles of a terminal, but many drivers have posted they were hired outside the 75 mile radius.
Best advice is to submit applications. Many OTR jobs couldn't care less how close you are to a terminal, because it's irrelevant to OTR driving.

Yes, submit applications the first week of CDL school.
Apply to all those tanker companies.

I was thinking it was relevant unless they allow you to park your truck close to your house. Is it common to drive 4 hours in your personal vehicle for home time?

Schneider might have relaxed their policy. The recruiter I spoke with a couple of days ago said 100 miles was their limit.
