so i've been putting in applications to start this trucking career and so far ive gotten approved for Maverick, Prime, and Swift.. Swift recruiter told me that they have an dedicated walmart account for me after training out of Temple Texas starting out at .43cpm averaging about 2000-2400 miles a week she said it i would be home weekly im not sure if this is all true I know how recruiters lie to reel you in but I would hope it to be true I could start training as early as morning she said....now Maverick approved me and they sound like an excellent company they were #1 on my list...I like how you're home weekly with the flatbed division the pay is excellent also good miles.. I see nothing but good things about them everywhere! the thing is im 7th on the waiting list so im not even sure when I'll be able to start training maybe a few months and i cant wait that long....now Prime also has good pay and nice miles I believe its like .40cpm starting off with flatbed... Im just wondering if I take one over the other would that effect future opportunities with the other companies i got accepted through like if i go with swift would i be able to put in another application at say maverick if i leave swift after awhile? also would Maverick be worth waiting for I mean i could get a temp job until they call me up if its really worth it but if not i guess its a choice between Swift and Prime...any advice?

    Swift has driver facing cameras.
If Prime flatbed can start you sooner, go with them. After one year experience, switch to Lone Star Transportation in Ft. Worth.

Ask the recruiter for it in writing... if she refuses then you know she is full of crap

I work with a guy who just quit swift. If the recruiter claims they're going to pay a new driver .42 a mile with an average of 2000-2400 miles a week... That's 840-1000 per week...well, you show me your paystubs in a year and i'll buy you a steak dinner if you make anywhere near that.

It's a company with something close to a 90% annual turnover rate. If that doesn't scare you away, I don't know what else would.

Yea I'm not going to go through with it I also know someone who works for them and isn't very happy one bit...so I'll give prime a shot depending on when they can take me if Maverick doesn't get me first maverick flatbed is home every week and primes flat bed is every two weeks I'm just trying to get this year of experience so I can go into something else 10x better...

I've driven both box and flatbed. By what I've seen on this site Maverick sounds like the best. But nobody can tell you what company is best for you because we are all different. Make a list on what you want and go figure what company is best. If you have to wait it might be the best thing to do. Don't let the cameras that face the driver scare you or make you choose another company unless that's all they face. They should have a package where the cameras face both forward and at you. In that case they can help you more than you know. Just take on case; a car jets in front of you and slams the brakes on. You hit the car and the driver claims you struck him for no reason and he now has major back problems. That camera can prove he's wrong and save your job. That's why my company installed them because people see "Deep Pockets" and want to sue in civil court. It was getting very bad in the L.A. area that the company just settled for convenience and cost. It was cheaper to pay the suit $75,000 dollars than to hire lawyers and fight the case. People started to know this so many scams popped up. If you want to be a professional driver then you need to get used to the cameras.

Swift has over a 90% turnover rate and always had had more then 90% turnover. They regularly report 95-96% turnover but that is a lie and the real turnover is much higher. There have been times when their turnover was over 100%, like 115% to 120%. That should tell a prospect enough.

Swift starts on a pay scale and seldom deviates from it. They almost always disregard any experience you may have and start you off on the lowest rung. They do not start at .43cpm.

Rarely do they let anyone start out on a dedicated account. You usually have to meet some eeoc criteria to score a dedicated right off the bat and Walmart is in demand for Swift drivers. At one time Walmart Dedicated paid a cent or two per a mile less with no sliding scale at Swift and they still had drivers looking for that account. I am not sure the deal now.

2400-2000 is what Swift recruiters have been 'promising' for ever; They just never deliver. Sure some drivers get that once in a while but before e-logs a Swift driver averaged 1700 miles a week. After e-logs it dropped to 1500. With their "plus 1 system" it became even worse. "Plus 1" was supposed to recover the miles lost by poor planning when Swift was strapped with e-logs. In true Swift fashion, just the opposite happened; fewer miles.

Haha that's funny. That means that lady was lying her ### off to get me to start there. Tons of false promises I pretty much figured as much anyway well time to cross them off the list.
