Is there anybody who will hire with a completed refresher course without recent experience? Schneider is now the 4th company to say no without at least 3 months recent.

    Which companies said "no"?

Any of these? These hire with a long gap in driving.

    Earl Henderson Trucking
    Freymiller
    Navajo Express
    KKW Trucking
    Western Express
    Dartco
    Celadon
    James H. Clark & Son
Central Oregon Truck Co. - a driver posted this week he was hired here and hasn't driven in 15 yrs.

Submit some online apps and follow with a phone call. This gives them an application to look at on the computer screen when you call.

Do you have any advice for me? I have been driving every truck imagineable for th last 8years in the army but as a fueler(petroleum supply specialist) my main job was driving fuel tankers and 5k tankers. I have already got my CDL in Kansas with tanker endorsement and am waiting on my HAZMAT right now. I am looking for regional tanker jobs but I am willing to do regular trucking to get my foot in the door.

Where in Kansas do you live?

One company that I know of is Groendyke out of Enid OK. I believe that they have a terminal in Wichita KS. From what I understand, it is year round steady work.

Perhaps you could give them a call.

God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!

I think you should do something as simple a s stop by ANY gas station getting gas (and or diesel) delivered that day, and ask the driver?

many smaller companies (at least here) hire out to the big oil corporations. The big corporations have cut back that when someone retires, they do not re-hire.

I actually was able to go and talk to a company that a driver sent me too. But I did not like the thought of working 7 days schedule, and especially on holidays. But that is what one has to do, to get into the door. But I am not able to work that type of schedule, due to family issues, and a home.

When you say "no", what are they saying no to? Coming in as an experienced driver who does not need to run several weeks with a trainer? or no, you can't come in as a trainee either?

You will need to expect to run with a trainer to verify any skills you may or may not have. Also, you will need to expect to complete a "refresher" [with someone who is accepted by the carrier] at the very least. What "refresher" entails will vary from one carrier to the next.

All that to say you will need BOTH. A refresher and time with a trainer. Also, some may not consider a refresher as a valid option and may require you to start as if you have never had a CDL or ever driven a truck.

You are competing with a lot of hungry new drivers desperate for better money and/or a steady job. These new drivers can be easily "molded" to accept their terms and styles and they (the carrier) likes that aspect of new drivers with no bad habits and bad attitudes ("old school attitude") to deal with.
