Is this DOT legal? One person said no because the hole goes all the way across and is welded but another said yes because It's repaired.
I hope this works. It's the first time I've put a picture in my post here.

I'd just put a new cross member and call it a day
-
I agree completely. However, being it's a company trailer they don't see it my way. I was suppose to take it to pick up a load but it also had a blinker out so thankfully didn't have to use it until I could find out one way or another of it was legal to use that way.
-
You'll be fine pulling it with the roof the way it is. Lot's of shippers I've dealt with would probably reject that trailer to load but I'm not sure who you pull for or what the trailer will be pulling or your weather forecast. Plenty of trailers running around with a lot more duct tape and half-### repair jobs then that.

Well,, first of all that's not a proper repair. Someone needs to tell that welder... that he's not a welder. He's a butcher at best.
I can't see the backing plate he used in the repair, or it's thickness/dimensions, but the weld is horrible.
I'd bet dollars to donuts that any DOT inspection would see that "repair" from the get-go and hit you with a violation. -
the cross member is not flat/flush against the floor of the trailer, there is a potential weak spot in the floor, looks like an "African special" repair I often see on the bottoms of containers, also, KW is right, that's a butcher of a welding job
-
one would think if that is the repair
there would be more violations to be found
underneath the duct tape -
-
OP Not sure if that is a legal fix. The cross member still has a bend in it. I don't think DOT would put you OOS for it, But they might give you a 15 day fix it warning.

Crossmember is about 70.00 and 1 1/2 hour to replace. I hope that was the persons first try at welding.
Toomanybikes Thanks this.
