Hey all. First, I want to start out by saying I have been a long time member here. Was going to start this career back in '08 but Uncle Sam decided it was best I stay in a bit longer. Just wanted to get a feel on the best outfits out there that offer a military apprentice program. I am still active duty and will separate in the next year or so. I have read on here about some companies such as Schneider, TMC, Roehl, (just heard something today about Conway - True to Troops or True to Blue) but I am seeking information specifically towards someone who has gone this route. I have found some great information regarding this, but nothing too recent. Anyone have anything to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are a few more. Google can help you along your way. I found this off of another website forum, I have not looked into all of them personally. -
be carefull of the big fleets,,they advertise in Army Times etc for drivers "veteran friendly" just a gimmick to fill their empty seats,,
If you have a militart drivers license with M915 , M1070 HET on it there are some states that will accept your military experience to get a civilian CDL,,check with your post transition office,,I think Florida and North Carolina have a program,,,be carefull many big fleets make you think they have a good deal for you but in reality they will hire anyone and pay them crap.
Big fleets generally do no pay as much as some local work loke working for Coca Cola,,A beer distributer or a food distributor like Sysco,,If you got OTR with a big fleet you will be gone from home for weeks at a time and work 60 to 70 hours a week and when you figure the hours you actually worked the wages will not be good, Trucking due to the fair labor standards act from back in the 30's exempt trucking companies from paying for over time,
A good place to look to is grain hauling companies pulling hopper bottoms you will be very busy from early spring thru the winter.
An other is companies like waste management or local and state gov ..Most local and state gov give preference to Vets and many will include you military years towards their retirement,,
Big fleets like drivers that are much like E-1 recruits and it will take years to make E-2 and be treated like something other than cannon fodder -
Go with Schneider Bulk (tankers).

Thanks. I really appreciate the information. I am basically weighing out all of my options and where to start when I pull the trigger to get into this industry. I do have a degree in transportation and logistics management. I am ultimately wanting to grasp the whole realm of the industry from behind the wheel to behind a desk. Again, thanks for the info.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
