Great companies to begin with in a trucking career?

    Hello, I could really use some help. I am really new to trucking. I have a ton of questions, but I will keep them simple. I am a student currently in a CDL program. I am doing some research on which companies are the best to start off with. I may or may not want to make this my life career. But I am going to give it my all either way. Here are my questions:

    What are some "great" companies to begin with?

    What can I expect to make starting off to work for these companies?

    My goal, to make roughly 55k to 80k yearly within hopefully 2 to 5 years.

    What kind of extra skills, training, programs or classes would make me more desirable to companies and give me a higher salary/pay?

    Notes:

    Single, male, no attachments, no debt, nothing, nadda, have my Associate's Degree.

    now that the jokes out of the way lol. get you hazmat and tanker endorsements. put your location in and what kind of trucking you want to get into. members here will chime in and hopefully give you better advice. goodluck

    How about getting Hazmat, doubles and tanker endorsements.

    Go into union Linehaul at lets say ABF and earn $70-$90k a year while getting a pension, free health insurance.. actually see your home and when not you're at a company hotel.
    All drop and hook at terminals...
    Not of that local garbage. Just easy driving terminal to terminal.
    Oh yeah and you're paid for pretty much everything you do.

    That's not joke...

    I am in Omaha, Nebraska. Honestly, I am interested in making as much money as possible as quickly as I can with the least amount of hassle. I really have no idea what kind of trucking I want to do. As I said, I am "really" new to trucking. But I am open to all positive advice.

    Freight whipper is bsing you. Schneider is a good company and they offer tanker training. Tanker drivers do better than dry van, for the most part.

    Tanker companies that take on students would be a great start. Apply at all of them. LTL is really great, IF any of them would hire you. Old Dominion started hiring students at select terminals I believe.

    Which union company are you with?....lol. The Teamsters union pension fund is bleeding $2 Billion a year and the union big shots are blaming everyone except themselves; even blaming Hostess Cup Cakes. The pensions, even for those already retired, are going to take a big cut. Union outfits may be OK for a paycheck but don't depend on them to take care of your retirement. It's called personal responsibility.

    Liquid Trucking Companies ($1000.00 wk training pay)
    Decker Truck Line (OTR reefer division)

    Pick one and go for it; in 6-12 months if you find something better, then change jobs with no repercussions.
    If websites have "experience required", apply anyway. Many companies bend their own hiring rules for high quality applicants.

    Start sumitting applications now; don't wait until graduation. Submit as many as you want, then choose from the job offers.
