They work fine on snow. Ice is what you have to be concerned with. If you have to chain, you can do it in about half the time.

I spent the last 3 winters with super singles, running the northeast and northwest. The only times I was REALLY concerned.... ICE.

They totally suck on ice, and are very easy to break loose.

The state of Neveada did not allow singles on the drives but we had them on our 4 axle trailers since 1990 or before. I can't tell you that driving on deserts road when the first rains come in along time is just like ice. They would break away real easy if you had apply the brakes kinda of hard but so would the duals. Once ABS came on we didn't have anymore problems. One thing our company looked at was the foot print of the super single and it's not all that smaller. They also showed us that the axles were wider so the center of gravity was lower. But IMHO driving on ice is driving on ice and no matter what tire you have it's going to be slippery.
