Question

I have been working a seasonal job that ends in a week or two. The truck doesn't move again till spring, it's a 25' box truck. I was thinking of talking to the owner of truck and seeing if he was interested in letting me drive the truck in the off-season for a courier type service. I don't know how much to expect for pay and how I would split it with the owner of the truck. Any thoughts or is my idea a clusterfxxxxx.

We owned a small currier bussiness at one point in time and b4 we shut the doors on the company we dealt with alot of straight job curriers/truck services for some small school supply deliveries we would give away. Money or rates for theese guys seem low, as in they don't charge a very high rate, most of them own or lease at least a few straight jobs, so it would seem that by the time You paid the owner his half or percentage it probably wouldnt be worth it. Now there is one exception or a few out there. I forget what it is named but fed ex has one of theese divisions something like prestige priority or direct demand I am not sure but it is definately a division of fed ex.. (Custom Critical) Thats it, sorry mind rust. They use straight jobs for alot of this bussiness but I know htere are certain requirements for the trucks, like stabilizers for unloading and maybe even a sleeper, but what I do know is the loads pay a pretty penny considering it is straight job work. But thats all I can think of to make any money that would be worth Your trouble. One other thought would be to see if a U.S. mail contractor may be able to use You and the truck, they pay pretty well usually on a postal rate scale, and the work is always there, just be ready for background checks up the WaZoo U.S.P.S. is super paranoid and for good reason, a terrorist would love to get a truckload of mail for sure. Oh well hope I was a little helpful and good luck..
