still rolling, situation normal...........

I made it home about 3 weeks ago didn't have alot of time for the internet my 'lawn' had grown to about 3' tall. I was home for three days and then headed back out, I had a very busy three days suppling my 'new' truck. but I pulled it all together and headed out from sept 6 thru oct 1. I won't bore you with alot of details about stuff you've all seen dozens of times more then me. I did have something interesting happen today, my cell went off it was one of the support people at Eagle. the first thing she did was wish me a happy birthday, then she told me I ran more miles then any other eagle solo driver. they gave me a $100 bonus.

september was my first full month with this company. I told them I was pretty dedicated to going down the road and to expect more of the same.

they said I ran 12,557 miles. that's not that much is it?

12.5K is fairly good with the current state of companies today. Low miles...period. If you can get 3K a week. Be happy

Many companies like to tell you that THEIR drivers average $52K a year. While they average 9500 miles a month at .37 a mile. I've never been able to make that new math work like they did.

I average 9800 miles a month, but then again I only work four days/ 3 nights a week. If I stayed out any longer it would p.o. my wife. 'Sides, I like three day weekends.

Depends on who you ask...

You can ask all different types of drivers doing all different types of hauling and you'll get different answers. (Imagine that!) In general, for long-haul no-touch operations, I'd have to say that yes, you're doing great miles. There are some super truckers out that that will brag about even more miles than that but I think I legitimate cross section of drivers will show that you're in the upper portion of drivers mileage-wise. If you're enjoying running like that AND the company's acknowledging/rewarding you for it, count yourself among the few... Hope it continues to go well for you.

depends on your perspective

keep in mind guys the fact that running 5000 miles a week does not do crap for you if the pay is not up to snuff.

companies advertise "more miles - more money" well yes, that is simple logic but who wants to run 200000 miles a year at 30 cents a mile...

be sure the rate per mile is up to snuff and do not take your companies word for it...

research on your own.

Then again there are a lot of guys who will work for less just as long as they have a shiny new pete' (((blank stare)))

most guys say they are all about bang for the buck - and yet they shackle themselves to a crappy job.

the other shoe fell this month (october) the routing was in the east/northeast. the trips were shorter, most were ok but there was this one. I was running around the streets of holyoke/chickopee, burbs of springfield mass, I had a three pick up load. what a nightmare, by the second stop I wanted to throw my keys in the canal and find a pub. the third stop had no directions to get to it, qualcom said 'contact dispatch for directions' I called and of course he wouldn't answer....... lucky for me a UPS guy was delivering and he explained how to get there.

the next morning I was trying to route myself down from the jersey turnpike to north bergen, I almost got a ticket being on a restricted road.
why I don't like the northeast? they don't mark anything your on county highway 57 south you come to a "T" intersection and there is no indication of which way to go! you have to guess. the traffic is insanely heavy, and the driver are just plain old insane. the surface streets were designed for horse and buggy not a semi. do I need to go on?

I got my board amended to say "no northeast dispatch"
now all I have to do is take my home time out west

Too bad Alot, believe me I know how much it sucks to drive up here. All my life, even in a 4-wheeler. I wish you'd had a way to contact me at the time, I live in the town right next to Holyoke, many times I have helped truckers with directions.
