USA what about wal-mart???

hey folks, 2nd timer here, and must thanks all the 411 i got in my last post, some really awsome people here, anyhow, im 21, in trucking school at the moment, had decided to pay for it myself from a private school, however, my teacher says to stick with a small company, cause they will no your name, your face, your family, and they take it all in concideracion, which is great, really is, however, as i said, im 21, im not worried about family or kids or anything, hell, i dont even have any bills, i admit it, i still live at home with the folks, and its fine, BUT, i am not at all interested in working for " lil jo shmoes transport" im looking for such place's as Wal-Mart, TMC, Schnider, Maverick, somone with a good rep, i no that TMC in all flatbed, which is totaly kool with me, im keeping my options open with these 4 companies, and i need advise from all of you to tell me which one to go for, so anything, and everything would be awsome,
hey folks, thanks again, cant wait to see what you respond with

As a student, you can cross Walmart off your list. They require several years of documented safe driving, so you are going to have to have about 300,000 miles experience before you can even think of applying with them.

As for your otjher choices, they are all decent places to start. Make sure that your schooling meets their minimum standards or it might not count with them.

yeah for the most part they do, the only thing the school does not have is a tanker, and if they do, im going to stay with them longer, so atleast wal mart gives me somthing to work too...now out of the other 3 which one would be the better one to go with, schnider? mavrick? TMC?

If you're up for tarping and securing loads...

Then Maverick and TMC would be good bets. You're doing a little more work but in the end you'll make a little more money. Also, beware the attitude that a large company automatically means you'll take home more money. There are plenty of smaller operations that can make you just as much, if not more, money than the mega carriers. Don't get caught up in the hype they try to sell you on which is that their size is proportional to your profits. It isn't so 100% of the time.

Did your guy have a job with Walmart, or a dedicated Schneider run pulling a Walmart trailer? They are not quite the same thing. There are many drivers pulling Walmart trailers who are dispatched by Walmart, pull daily between Walmart DC's and stores, yet are not employees of Walmart. Walmart has it's own private fleet, and unless there have been recent changes, (and I mean within the past month or so), the standards are still pretty stringent to get into Walmarts own private fleet.

It must be a local-regional thing. They aren't hiring without the experience in our area...period.

who is "they" - wal mart?

I just called their bentonville training / orientation guy (mark hennsen) down in arkansas - he said most barns will hire you with a clean record and a minimum of 1 year...

some in hard need of drivers will bend the rules even further depending on the guy...

((( no shaggy unbathed truckers need apply )))

They is Wal-Mart AND Roadway. Local management will tell you flat out, you're about #176 on the list, keep checking back. According to the "local" management, it could take 2-3 years to even get considered.

I have a clean DAC, clean MVR, and a ton of experience...and I bathe as often as I can .
