| As a student, you can cross Walmart off your list. They require several years of documented safe driving, so you are going to have to have about 300,000 miles experience before you can even think of applying with them. As for your otjher choices, they are all decent places to start. Make sure that your schooling meets their minimum standards or it might not count with them. |
| ||||
| yeah for the most part they do, the only thing the school does not have is a tanker, and if they do, im going to stay with them longer, so atleast wal mart gives me somthing to work too...now out of the other 3 which one would be the better one to go with, schnider? mavrick? TMC? |
| |||
| If you're up for tarping and securing loads... Then Maverick and TMC would be good bets. You're doing a little more work but in the end you'll make a little more money. Also, beware the attitude that a large company automatically means you'll take home more money. There are plenty of smaller operations that can make you just as much, if not more, money than the mega carriers. Don't get caught up in the hype they try to sell you on which is that their size is proportional to your profits. It isn't so 100% of the time. |

| wal mart spoke with a wal mart guy last night - he had 6 months with schneider - now with wal mart.. burky - times are changing as to requirements... companies need drivers (bad) like I just posted in another thread - we at roadway are hiring guys right out of school.... when I first looked at roadway in 2001 you had to have XXX years with 0 accidents.... not anymore.

| Did your guy have a job with Walmart, or a dedicated Schneider run pulling a Walmart trailer? They are not quite the same thing. There are many drivers pulling Walmart trailers who are dispatched by Walmart, pull daily between Walmart DC's and stores, yet are not employees of Walmart. Walmart has it's own private fleet, and unless there have been recent changes, (and I mean within the past month or so), the standards are still pretty stringent to get into Walmarts own private fleet. |

| wal mart he was a wal mart driver - walmart truck and trailer - formerly schneider... times are changing - and changing fast dude.... like I said we have guys walking through our doors getting on with a union ltl job (55 cents a mile plus all the add ons) # ABF YELLOW and ROADWAY. hell even UPS is easy to get on with now...

They is Wal-Mart AND Roadway. Local management will tell you flat out, you're about #176 on the list, keep checking back. According to the "local" management, it could take 2-3 years to even get considered. I have a clean DAC, clean MVR, and a ton of experience...and I bathe as often as I can
