Starting Arrow on Monday; Any Advice From Their Drivers?

Well, I am heading out for Arrow on Saturday and starting orientation on Monday. After a few weeks of research I think they are the best company to start out with.

If you drive for Arrow and can give me some advice on orientation and the training I would appreciate it. Also, if there are any other drivers starting orientation Monday October 15, leave a message with your e-mail and I will get in touch with you. Maybe we can get together for dinner on the weekend.

You should know by the end of the week if they are going to have you go to orientation. There are no qualifications that I am aware of, just a CDL and they will do a criminal and employment background. Based on those they will decide if they want you to go to orientation I think. Good luck to you.

first this thread is like 4 months old. second arrow doesn't have any dry boxes just flatbed. and they are a relatively a good company. they are self insured and can offer jobs to ppl who have a blemish on there record so that we have a chance to provide for our family. they pay great. start at .34 as a student driver and average 3000 miles. every company has bad crap. u just pick the one that has the bad crap u can deal with and go with it.

3000 miles??? not anymore

Okay been here 3 years and up until january I would have said yes Arrow is a good company. Unfortunately I can not say that anymore. Now they have made several major changes, first they changed ther average LOH from 1400 to 500 and have said be prepared to tarp almost every day. Second they have said we are going to run mainly east coast freight, hence the shorter miles. Third their safety rating has hit the roof 97 points last I looked. So now the safety department has swung from a rather workable system to tracking EVERY truck via the quallcomm, and every thing has to match meaning no mistakes period. The last newsletter said a driver should be able to drive 2300 + a week......... yes I am still laughing on that one!!! I guess no one has ever looked at the time I have spent at any Houston pipe yard or heaven help you at wheatland tube in chicago oooh and my favorite Allied in harvey ooooh pack your cooler for that one too! Not whinning just stating the facts, been doing this 20 years so I kinda expect things like that. Optimus I applaud your enthusiasm and hope you gain some valuable experience while you are here, but when you finally get out on your own you will have a rude awakening. Yes I know Mr Turner & co. put on a wonderfull orientation and you walk away from there feeling that gee I have found the last company I will ever work for, just remember safety, training and recruiting are on jackson while operations are on elwood over a mile in distance and so it seems a world apart at times. As a side note Mr Turner does write some very inspirational messages that are sent fleetwide via the quallcomm, but as of yet I have never seen him say hi to a driver, bye or even acknoledge one in the hallway or office, kinda makes ya wonder about all those messages that "come from the heart" if ya catch my drift. So to all who decide on Arrow just keep these things you have read in mind, get your training, hone your skills then find a decent company that will appreciate you. Take care and best wishes.
