We always try to stop at rest areas. They're quieter, smell better, my dog loves them and it's more peaceful. If no choice, then it's a truck stop. What about you?

I go to a truck stop when I can. I like sleeping in rest areas when I can find one with a good clean bathroom, but many are so run down that it is just not worth the effort.
There are a few on routes that I take that I will sleep in.
I also like truck stops because my morning coffee is in there waiting for me. If I sleep in a rest area it means I will have to stop soon after getting rolling to get my morning cup.

Well, if you stop at rest areas in Quebec, they have mini truck wagons there so you can get your coffee, too, and a muffin, etc., if you like and the ones in Quebec and Ontario are REALLY clean and well maintained.

So far, all the ones I've been to in the northeastern USA have been decent and usable and I don't drink coffee so that's not a problem for me.

I usually sleep in the sleeper berth.........

Seriously though, anywhere I can. Sometimes you have to sleep where your hours leave you stranded at.

I am a team driver so usually we try to get as close to the shipper/reciever as possible and hit the nearest truck stop if we have to stop.

Altho last month I spent most of my time at 3 diff company terminals waiting for service What a waste of time this "company" is!!!!!

You should've included an option in your poll that I would've been able to select.

That would've been anywhere I can once I get tired. It might be a truck stop, a rest area, a shipper/rcvr, or a get on ramp (never on the get off side and only where it's legal).

So what do you do if you're a new guy, just take your chances on finding a place to sleep until you learn where the truckstops are and where you can and can't do it?

I'm not a new guy, so I don't worry 'bout that.

But for those that are new, I recommend trip planning with a motor carrier's road atlas and a truck stop guide book.

All of the above. It depends on a lot of factors. I am for Truck Stops so I can shower in the morning though. But in the southeast I hit up that chain of strip clubs. HAHA LOADS of parking, free clean showers, and a good breakfast under 5 bucks! Girls are not normally dancing in the morning and would rather just sit and chat with you. Can't complain about that! What a way to start the day. Don't knock it.
